Shownotes:
The newest JVC Everio GZ-HM340 camcorder introduces an advanced image stabilization feature that helps to overcome shaky video while walking.
Displax turns any surface into a multitouch input device using a polymer film.
We got to spend the whole month of December trying a pair of Thiel SCS4 Coherent Source Loudspeakers with a Bryston 100SST Integrated Amp and a Bryston BCD-1 CD player. I’ve always said I’m not an audiophile, and I can’t really tell the difference between good speakers and okay speakers. Now I do.

I like the new intro, but the images seem to slide by too fast to get a good look.
And uh, Cali, sorry to say, but I couldn’t help thinking: bad hair day?

Did the guy say how much that crisp and clear sound price tag was? I bet it was 5k.

Guess on the squeak — did you have earrings on? It’s the only thing I can think of within range of your mic.

If high end audio has piqued your interest, you should check out Meridian out of the UK. Their approach to to do all processing in the digital domain, and keep outputs digital as long as possible (speaker drivers are analog, they convert from digital to analog inside the speaker, DA converter and amp are both in the enclosures. Approach makes a lot of sense, and sounds great. You will want a pair, or five or seven, DSP8000s …

THIEL and Bryston would like to thank Cali Lewis for spending time with our gear! High-end audio is all about a moving, memorable experience, and we were so pleased to share that with Cali and Neal. The high-end audio community is populated with many wonderful brands, people, and products. We couldn’t think of a better way to share who and what we are all about than to drop off a system and let it roll!! Just let us know what you’d like to hear next!!

Yayy I was waiting for the actual review of those speakers ever since you mentioned them a few briefs back! As for the expensive cables and whatnot, in a home setting like you had, the difference cheap vs. expensive cabling makes is really very small (but not nonexistent). The real difference is when you have longer cable runs (over 10ft) and particularly when you’re in an area with a lot of interference (such as a club or studio with a lot of electronic equipment). Same applies to the conditioner – it is there to provide clean power to the components to protect from potential dips and spikes in current that could be caused by other devices nearby or on the same circuit panel.

Oh, and @robertbc: the speakers are a grand each, which is actually a good price if the sound is as good as they are made out to be.

@Cali:
Are you sitting on a Vitra/ Charles & Ray Eames Lounge Chair during the Loudspeaker review?
If so, you have a great taste! Those are awesome furniture. I mean, Eames is a absolute classic!
Apart from that, I really enjoy every Episode.
Thanks for the last 700 of them, keep up the great work!

I don’t know if I like the speakers described like a pro,but I love your house.

OK, I used to be an audiophile, but I got better :p anyway, don’t make the mistake many folks do that the speaker is the main part of the audio chain. You know the old “garbage-in-garbage-out” saying for computers? Well it applies to audio as well. Speakers will give you tonality and clarity, but the detail must come from the source.
