Shownotes:
The Fretlight Guitar will help teach kids how to play the guitar and where to put their fingers.
Teaching kids about audio is important, and it’s a goal the GeoSafari Digital Recording Lab aims to do. With 59 projects, kids can learn about transistors, capacitors, resistors and wiring.
My first robot was from Parallax. They offer lots of robot kits, from beginner to advanced. The Boe-Bot is for kids 12 or older and teaches electronics, circuits, robotics and micro-controller programming.
The Lego Digital Camera is for kids between 7 and 15. It takes 3 megapixel photos, has built in flash, fixed focus and digital zoom.

I love that digital recording lab. I had something similar to it when I was a kid, an electronics experimenter kit from Heathkit. That was one cool Christmas present. Glad to see the spirit of teaching kids electronics concepts is still about and in not too different a form.

I love the show and have been watching for about a year. I know you guys are in a new space and the audio engineer in me is telling me you guys need some acoustic treatment in your room so you don’t sound like you are broadcasting out of your bathroom. Thanks for keep us bloggers informed.

Only problem with the fretlight guitar is the instrument itself is garbage. theyre hard as hell to keep in tune. i started with one and returned it after keeping it only 2 weeks.
learning scales and chord shapes is important yes. but for what you get, i think youll learn faster when your instrument is in tune and sounds the way you want it to. its simply just confusing a frustrating for a new student to learn the right shapes, play them, and have them sound “off”. especially when learning those crucially important first songs. those first songs motivate a guitar player for most of their playing life.
really, its better to just buy a decent guitar for like 500 (seriously an epiphone, or import prs, or a used mexican fender for 500 is WAY better).
the fret lights really dont add that much. i know from personal experience.
