Shownotes:
Apple’s 27″ Cinema Display is a great bargain. It’s almost as big as the 30″ Display, it’s LED back-lit, it’s thinner, the resolution is almost as high (2560 X 1440) and it costs $100 less than the 30″ Cinema Display.
PogoPlug makes the files on a USB connected drive available for you to access from any computer anywhere in the world. The new version includes four USB ports.
Data Robotics released a new Drobo last week, called the Drobo S. It adds eSATA and a fifth drive bay. I’ll be giving one away during our Streaming Christmas Party with Geoff Smith on December 22nd at 8:00 PM Central. More details to come, but make sure you sign up on Twitter and follow me at Twitter.com/CaliLewis.
If you have a digital camera that uses SD cards, an Eye-Fi is a great tool! It’s an SD card that will wirelessly upload your photos to your computer, or your favorite photo sharing site.
I’ve recommended the Amazon Kindle since the moment I laid my hands on the first version, and I still recommend it.
My promo code GEEK will save you 12% at SquareSpace when you’re ready to create an easy, great looking website.

When did Geekbrief get an explicit rating on iTunes ?
December 2nd, 2009 at 7:02 am
I don’t share your enthusiasm for the Kindle for a few reasons. First – Amazon has been on my personal blacklist because of the one click patent.
Second – I won’t buy ebooks with DRM.
Finally, they don’t have adequate support for open file formats. If I’m carrying around a dedicated reading device, I’d like to be able to stuff it with reference material in addition to books that are either free or at least reasonably priced and DRM free… I’ve got hundreds of books from Baen’s Webscriptions which I can download anytime and in a variety of formats. That’s ebook content done the way I like it.

Um….we certainly shouldn’t have an explicit rating in iTunes! I’ll take a look, thank you!

I’ll have one of everything, please. Great list!
And if by explicit iTunes means Explicitly Shiny and Happy – Awesome!
Peace,
Ron

I’m right with you there about the Kindle. I purchased the international version based on your experience and I have to say too that the addition of native PDF reading is t’riffic.Just a couple of things would make it perfect though. To be able to zoom and resize the PDF’s as well as annotate them , allbeit simply. Other than that find it a joy to you and as I am a Linux guy am stoked that there is such a cool app (Calibre) http://calibre-ebook.com/ that will convert and manage my Ebooks and sync with my Kindle seamlessly.
So now I have given myself an early Xmas gift wonder what else I should get for the day ? ;)
Thanks, as always Cali, for sharing :)

Thanks as always for keeping us informed.
PS: I believe your link to Eye-Fi is wrong, should be http://www.eye.fi/ and not http://www.eye-fi/.

I’d like to see epub support on Kindle, but I don’t see it happening as Amazon is enjoying having the market cornered on ebooks and ereaders right now. Well not CORNERED but close enough.

As far as a e-reader go you need to look at Sony’s New PRS-900BC. Kindle doesn’t hold candle to this e-reader……..

3. 1.6GB of onboard memory-with dual memory expansion card slots, your reading library is virtually limitless up 10,000 books.
4. Reads in multiple formats, Adobe PDF, MS-Word, BBeB, and other text file formats, as well as E-PUB/ACS4. Additionally with ePub and PDF, you’ll have access to over one million free public domain titles from Google Books.
5. You can play back unsecured MP3 and AAC audio files while you read.
6. Freehand highlighting & annotation
7. Built-in Dictionary-The New Oxford American Dictionary, Second Edition.
8. Portrait or landscape viewing-In landscape mode the Reader Daily Edition allows for comfortable 2-page layout of content.
9. Six adjustable font sizes to customize your reading
