*Luria is not an actress playing the role of Cali. Within an hour of registering the domain name geekbrief.com (.TV came later), we had this whole goofy back story about the Geek Intelligence Agency (the G.I.A.). Luria’s name, though beautiful, is difficult for people to pronounce, spell, and most importantly, google. As the International Director of the fictional G.I.A., of course it made sense that she have an alias. Alias, the TV show was popular at the time.

Cali Lewis was the name of a teenage girl from a book we were writing called The Blog of Cali Lewis. We loved that name, and as writers, or wanna-be writers at least, the whole concept of using a pseudonym seemed entirely natural.
In the first release called “Screen Test,” Luria explains that Cali would be her alias. From a branding perspective, we made a great choice. The downside is when people assume Neal is the geek and Cali is acting. Lur-Cal is far more a geek than Neal. Neal is an eccentric dork who depends on Lur-Cal for tech support day after day after day.
