1/29/06 – GeekBrief.TV | Download GBTV #0007 to watch in Quicktime
***This file may not be viewable by everyone! We’ll work on a fix tonight. From what we can tell, it isn’t viewable by some people in Quicktime, but other people aren’t having trouble. This is still the wild west in terms of figuring out what works best for everyone. Thanks for being a part of the experiment!
Baby, I’m back! I’m now with Podshow, so, finally, no more bandwidth issues!

Wow, great podcast. I did hear about you on The Daily Source Code #326, and I went straight here.
My verdict: Excellent!
One question about this show. will it be in 16:9? (I hope), since the aspect ratio was wrong in this episode.
You could have two separated feeds one for desktop in 16:9 and a ipod/portable in 4:3, easy by cropping in quicktime pro. anyway hoping to see more out of you soon.
Bye

Thank you! I’m happy to hear you came from DSC and that you like the show.
About your questions…you sound like a dl.tv viewer! :) It seems like they’re constantly getting requests for 16:9. For now, I’m not planning on doing two different feeds, purely for the reason of having a full time job and trying to get content out on a regular basis.
However, I don’t think that you’ll see this problem in the future. Have you watched any of the other shows? If you have, was the aspect ratio wrong on those as well? The reason I ask is that we tried a different compression format with Brief #7, and that seemed to cause a lot of people different problems. We are in the middle of trying to fix that. It may come down to having to re-shoot the whole show.
Adam talked about when he mentioned the show that I haven’t done any camera work before a month ago. This is all new to us, so we’re trying to learn fast! :) If you watch any of the first shows, you’ll see that we had a sync problem, and we got that fixed by Brief #6. Now our goal is to get smaller files sizes with better quality.
Thanks for the comment and I hope you continue to enjoy Geek Brief TV!

Hi again,
Yes I did download the past episodes and they only had the sync problem. Since you can shoot i 16:9 you should, And for gettimg smaler files. use the resolution 640 x 360 and mpeg 4 @ 2500 kbit/s, not h.264. This will play well on the ipod and good on the desktop, also the PSP users out there will be happy.
If you see the “Screencast online” podcast you can see that he has the same resolution as the one I was talking about.
Anyway just hoping for some more showes.
Bye

Hi,
Also got here after hearing AC’s recommendation in DSC #326.
I watched one and that was all it took. Now a “loyal” subscriber.
I like the episode so far, they are just long enough for me to watch one or two during lunch time. So I have a couple to catch up on.
Did the loyal thing and voted over at podcastalley
Keep the episodes coming Cali

Cali,
Also got here on AC’s recommendation in DSC 326. I had to watch one to see if it would be something I would like to be subscribed to.
Well IT IS!
So now a loyal listener, voted on Podcast Alley for the show and well even trying out Gizmo on your suggestion. I do have to admit the interface is a lot cleaner than Skype but think I will keep Skpe around for awhile anyways.
I like the show length, it works about so that I can watch a couple of shows at lunch.
Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next episode.

Thought I looked a bit skinny in Brief #7? Hugo Schotman knew exactly how to fix it: http://log.hugoschotman.com/hugo/2006/02/squeezed_geek_c.html
We had our camera set to record in anamorphic widescreen, so all of you who want to see it in 16:9, just follow his instructions, and you got it!
Thanks, Hugo!

Great work! I also have my own blog I just find it hard to write quality content like this. I guess I really don’t have the time.
