Since I started the holiday season, I’ve wanted to do a robot Brief, but I’m disappointed in robotics right now. There are some fun robots available and there are some practical robots available, but it seems like we’re a long, long way from the robots of our dreams. I’ve had a Roomba for more than a year. On hardwood floors it works pretty well. On carpet, though, it’s too much work to clean it. I’d rather use a Dyson. The Pleo, though seems like a lot of fun. I’d LOVE to watch how my chihuahuas respond to one. The PLEN Desktop Hobby Robot looks extremely elegant in the videos I’ve seen. They’re only selling 50 of them and the price is high. Miuro seems like fun, but it’s expensive and aimed at early robot adopters. Drobo is my favorite robot of the year and now Drobo’s maker has become a sponsor. Discount code *cali* will get you $50 off at drobostore.com.
Geoff Smith has a new Christmas album. We’ll have a streaming launch party Thursday, December 13 at 9:30 EST at GBTVlive.com. It’s going to be unforgettable.

Hey Cali & others, I know this has NOTHING to do with this Brief, but can anyone tell me what the name of the Slide Scanner Cali showed earlier this year?? I tried searching, but didn't come up with anything. Any help is appreciated as I want to get it for my father for Christmas! Thanks

It's being offered by Hammacher Schlemmer (http://www.hammacher.com/publish/74083.asp?promo=...Unfortunately, its ship date has been sliding and sliding. It's currently scheduled for 12/28, but at this point I'll believe it when I see it. Cali covered it on Brief #186.

PodShow was down for upgrades for a couple hours, so that should have been the reason. Sorry about that!

Hi Cali, Just a tip for the future. If you are going to do video interviews via skype, please make sure you look up at the camera once in a while (the one you are filming the brief with). You just become too disconnected from the viewers when you don't look up.
