I’m a Mac addict…a Mac fanatic. It’s all because I love simple, elegant design. I love Mac for the same reason I love Model One radios and Wee Houses. They’re pure and perfect. It’s something PC companies have missed design after design, until Gateway announced the ONE. It the first and only PC that is every bit as beautiful as a Mac. One Brief 279, I unboxed mine and set it up. In order to get this out quickly, I tested the Web cam and built in audio quality. I’ll be using it more throughout the holidays and I’m sure I’ll have more to add then, but for now my only complaints are the Wintel stickers on the front and Vista. Beyond that, it’s the most beautiful Windows PC ever built, and the best Windows setup experience I’ve ever had.

My best guess as to what the mystery wire thing is would be a reset tool. However, it could be a self contained MAC search tool that points toward a MAC when the PC crashes.

the tool you showed is actually a manual eject tool for stuck cds, you poke it into the cd drive pinhole to manually eject the mechanism if you get a cd stuck or cant power the unit to retrieve it

The Gateway ONE is just beautiful! Maybe they'll take your feedback on the stickers… definitely tacky, hah! Also, if you forgot your password it won't send it. I'm prompted to enter my login, which is why I need my password. I don't like this comment system.

That was our first thought, but there isn't an appropriate hole anywhere around the DVD slot.

Okay, it may look good, but it seems like it would be completely impossible to upgrade. What happens when I want to upgrade that display to a 32" wide screen or want to expand the sound to a new sound card as new technology comes out. The idea behind a pc is that the hardware can evolve as technology does without having to buy another machine and this seems to fail in this regard. This is also the complaint I have with my Mac, so I guess it fits.

Maybe I like the look because it looks like a gigantic iPod. Personally, I'm impressed with Gateway lately. I was hunting for a new laptop & the pricing was so great on some Gateways that I got 2 – one for me & one for my wife. Some extra RAM, a little Vista tweaking, and they're pretty good little PC's.

Actually, you can upgrade pretty much everything. The back opens easily and gives you access to upgrade RAM and HDDs.

…oh my. That was the one last piece of information I didn't need to hear. Cali closes a sale again!

The tool is for pushing the mouse and keyboard reset button on the top of the computer next to the web cam connector.

it is pretty, I like the sleek, polished black look. But, it seems like there's a good deal of wasted space there, it looks like a lot of space between the bottom of the screen and the bottom of the case. Also, I like the idea of a power brick that reaches to the floor (even though that brick is huge!), but how useful are those ports on the brick? Most of my usb connections (keyboard, mouse, webcam, usb toys) don't have very long cables and won't reach the floor. It is pretty, but I always build my own PCs so they probably didn't design it with me in mind ;)

What? I am surprised that PC is trying to be pretty! Thank you for the tip because I have been using MACs off and on since they first came out. Maybe I can get my family to consider getting this PC if you say so! However, my parents who are of the baby boomer generation are AFRAID to touch a computer! By the way, I can by your page via Twitter through @acomputerpro for he told me you had done the fireplace DVDs. I bought one at Gracious Homes in NYC. You have a lot of talent! =)

The Mystery Wire is a cable management piece for the back of the monitor. Samsung and others use the same thing.

And if you wanted to upgrade the display and video hardware (being that after ram this is one of the most common upgrades)? Also, just out of curiosity, what kind of expansion slots does it have. BTW, I've also been impressed with Gateway lately. I still go to Dell for my servers, and I still prefer to build my own development desktops, but both my laptop and my daughter's pc are Gateways.
