Nokia N95| Nokia N800/N810
Today was a technical disaster. Everything seemed to break, and I think it all started with the news that Angelina Jolie said she doesn’t know how to turn on a computer. I’m participating in the Qik alpha test. Qik.com makes it possible to stream quality video to the Web from a mobile phone. It’s simply amazing. My Qik streams are connected to my Twitter feed. Anytime I’m on, Qik will tweet for me. Imagine if I had it when I met the Woz. Micropod SE is a quite speaker. Fred thought different about salt and pepper shakers and iPod earbuds. SuperDuper is awesome for Mac users. It keeps you safe with a bootable clone of your system disk. I finish up with JoikuSpot. It’s an application that turns your S60 phone into a mobile WLAN hotspot. Oh, and then I declared email bankruptcy.
With promotion code “geekbrieftv”, you can get a Nokia N810 for 15% off. Lots of countries are participating. For a full list, click here. For more details on the promotion, click here.

Re: Email Bankruptcy
Hey Cali and Neal!
I think that you declaring email bankruptcy is a great idea! BUT, I don’t think you should try to start fresh. Sometimes you just have to let some things go so you can do more for yourselves.
I was recently reading a book that said everytime you say YES to something you don’t want to do, you’re saying NO to something you want to do or to something you should be doing. As the Brief continues to grow in popularity you need to find a way to focus more on what you do. Because the more people watch the show, the more you’re going to be spread thin trying to please everyone. You need to please yourselves. By taking time to answer every question (some that you’ve probably answered many times before, I’m sure) you’re saying no to doing more research for the show, playing with your gadgets or just spending time relaxing and enjoying life.
I’ll leave you with a story… A friend of mine’s friend is a huge Bon Jovi fan. A couple of years ago she saw him in concert. After the show she found out what hotel he was staying at and went to the hotel. He was sitting in the hotel bar, alone, having a drink and (maybe) watching tv. Just spending time alone. She walked up to him and said that she’s a huge fan and asked for an autograph. He politely said “I’m not working right now.”
She found that to be extremely rude. I found it to be incredible! He’s right! He needs time to himself. To enjoy his own life. He can’t allow himself to give away all his time to everyone whenever THEY want him to. You know?
So you need to be more like Bon Jovi. Pick and choose the questions you want to answer. Dearcali is a great way to save time. Or if you don’t want to waste too much time filming all the dear cali’s just write out the answers and post them on a FAQ page. (I don’t know if you already do that.)
Anyway, keep up the good work! Enjoy yourselves! Keep some of you to you!

Some great thoughts, Jamie. Although, I don’t know that I could ever “be like Bon Jovi”. I don’t consider meeting viewers as work. That’s one of our favorite things about doing what we do…getting to meet people! But I get your point. :)
I do Dear Cali answers almost daily on DearCali.com, so the answers are all searchable. The DearCali videos are ones I pick and choose, hopefully things a lot of people will find useful.
Thanks again!

I like the phone broadcasting stuff, but http://www.comvu.com / PocketCaster has been around for a couple years now. Even better, it has a long list of supported devices.

Seeing you three times on the screen really made me baffled (in a good way of course :)

Thank you for mentioning that the N810 promotion finally went international. If Nokia ever wants feedback on the promo, let them know they need to stay more loyal to their motherland Finland. Sony has always stayed loyal to Japan which I think is awesome.

What is the “unlimited” data plan you speak of. I wish to hear more. *shakes head* Data plans north of the 49th parallel _really_ suck. The cheapest data rate I’ve found is $60/month for 1GB, which is one of Roger’s data only plans (ie: GSM/HSDPA cards, no cell service). It really limits what I can do with my shiny N95 … which is I like it’s wifi capabilities. With that said, the Nokia Hotspot application really improves the appeal of the N810 tablets (and devices like the iRex Illiad). *hate Canadian cell phone providers*

are we back to the old comment system? not that I mind… I like this more.. heh.
Anyway, those earphone speakers are just hilarious… if they sound good, and don’t cost an arm and a leg, I might have to get one… eventually… too many toys.. too many household appliances breaking down.. haha.
SuperDuper is great for that cloned backup for when you need to be back online NOW. I opted not to buy it though because it’s a bit much for that specific use (and I don’t have a spare HDD for the purpose). I’m very picky about how I back things up, so time machine wasn’t for me either. If anyone is like me and does specific things you need, and have multiple copies everywhere because of data loss paranoia, take a look at chronosync.

I checked out your Qik.com live feed today. Very cool!
I wanted to respond but ended up disappointed that I couldn’t comment. You must have a login to comment. But logins seem to be limited to alpha testers or those with phones that are supported for video sending. They don’t say for sure but you have to do a phone verification on sign-up.

@Doug: What happened when you tried to comment? I thought you didn’t have to sign up…

@Doug: On Tuesday night, when Cali and Neal were first playing around with Qik, I was able to comment during the feed without logging in. Just entered a name by which my comments would appear. Those videos are no longer available – Cali, did you take them down or do they just have a natural expiration? I do see now that there’s a line “Log in to leave a comment”. I don’t know if that’s new or if the rules change after the feed is no longer live.
