It hardly feels like news, but Toshiba decided they’ll be out of the HD DVD business by the end of March. Apple reduced the price of the iPod Shuffle to $49 and introduced a 2GB version for $69. Verizon and AT&T both announced unlimited voice plans for $99 before we shot this Brief and then T-Mobile followed suit while we were shooting. It feels like we’ve said this before, but Chumby is finally for sale.
Jott is one of my favorite productivity apps. WakerUpper takes the help in the opposite direction and sends reminders to your phone at specified times. Planning for our year-long road trip we came across the Tourmaster T45G. It has a king size Murphy bed that folds up to turn the master bedroom into a fully equipped home theater.
If you’re interested in the details, we’re rolling out plans for the Big Trip at BigTrip.TV.

Good show. The BigTrip.tv link above goes to BigTrip.COM, though.

Hmmm… the past few shows say “GeeBrief.TV” in the name. Kinda strange, but I guess you guys haven’t noticed.

Hey Cali,
I’ve heard you mention the Chumby before, but I went a checked them out again. I’m very tempted… any chance you might get them to be a sponsor of the show, with a discount code? :-)
Keep the great shows coming!

This is just my view on the HD-DVD vs. Blue Ray. First off they both cost to much, and I don’t really want either one of them. Both companies focus to much time and money on “protecting their content” instead of giving me what I really want. That is High Quality Video at an affordable price that I can watch anywhere I want. Home, office, cell phone or portable device of my choosing. Also nobody ever brings up the “kid factor” I have kids and they ruin just about every DVD I buy for them. So I don’t think it’s fair that I can’t make a legal backup of my purchased DVD’s so I don’t have to keep buying them over and over. So here is the money maker. Lose the encryption thus bringing the cost down so that its cheaper to buy the real deal then the pirated one. Use some of the saved money to put limited edition numbered content in the DVD box and your done.
this is a battle that should have never been fought. because no matter who won. We the consumers have already lost. :(

Similar to wakerupper.com, there’s also http://www.ohdontforget.com/ which sends you a text message at whatever day and time you specify instead of calling you. I like to use it to type up grocery/to-do lists since I’m still not very good at typing on my phone.

Sorry if this comment seems outdated but I started late with this enjoyable podcast. Fear not! I am catching up and I have seen every show since you made show #1.
I just heard your comment about the 2 Drobo and DroboShare to protect your data while on the road in your RV. I am concerned that you may be missing a bigger risk. On a mobile platform (like your RV) the biggest risk that you are encountering is the total devastation of the RV. While the sane risk is also true for a normal house (single storage location), the risk increases on a traveling platform.
I strongly suggest that you create a plan to do double backup your data and ship one copy “off site” as soon as possible. I would hate to think that you could loose all of your backups/interviews/notes and “stuff” in one disastrous event.
Otherwise, have fun, enjoy life and tell us about your latest find.
Thanks for a great show.
