Lots of boxes have been built to get some of what’s on your PC onto your HDTV. Most of them govern which content you’re able to see. The ZeeVee ZvBox will let you see what ever is on your computer from any TV connected via a coaxial cable. You’re essentially creating a personal HDTV channel that displays whatever is on your computer. You can access and control any application on your computer. You can even play DVDs from your computer’s optical drive.
Zv components are available for pre-order exclusively from Amazon. The only downside I could find is that the computer channel will be the same on all connected TVs. Two people in different rooms cannot watch different videos at the same time, unless I missed something.
Sometime around CES, we covered the R2-D2 DVD Projector. We thought it was a cute novelty thing until @chaeseco pointed us toward the video via Twitter. Neal told him we already covered it, but after watching the video we wanted to show it to you guys. It’s longer than most videos we put on Geek Brief (about 2 minutes), but it’s just too cool to shorten.
The Star Wars Shop sells the R2-D2 DVD Projector for nearly $3000 and they’re sold out.
Note: We’re still trying to figure out some new audio issues after the studio change.

Wow, that R2-D2 is just packed with functionality. Unbelievably, I think I can see why it’s sold out at $3000.

I was wondering, whats the difference between plugging in a HDMI cable from your PC to your TV? That seems alot easier than buying ANOTHER box. I’m probably missing something here so if anybody has an explanation, let me know.
I WANT THAT PROJECTOR. NOW.

Hey Geekbrief.tv!!! Great episode, yet again! The audio sounds wonderful to me.
Love the R2D2 – I want the webcam (it’s after the DVD projector). So cool and cute and (have to say it) moxie.
Can’t wait till Saturday @calilewis and @nealcampbell.
PS – you guys also coined the following:
Twitter is the water cooler of the internet.
Don’t forget that!

Agreed. That R2 is super sweet!
@ Cali, How did you like that Becks?
See you guys at “the water cooler”
:)

I checked out the Nikko site and actually like the R2D2 webcam a bit better. The Star Wars shop sells this as well. It is $369.99.
@Cali – Sam Adams is better.

I dropped you a tweed, Cali. I like the new set, though I’m not sure about the partial view of the monitors in the background? The monitors are good, I’d just like to see a whole monitor.

I like the new set and I am very interested in the addition of prerolls. I understand that advertising pays the bills and I really think that your viewer involvement should be commended. Is the Becks product placement up for discussion? I thought it was another prop, like the mike until you went to another shot and it was placed very prominently. I am not against it per se, but with asking what we thought about pre rolls, I wonder why you didn’t ask about product placement.
All that being said. I love the show and I am not even a Mac user, or a twitter user. So I hope that is saying something. LOL

@Chris: I didn’t use to be a Mac user or a Twitter user, either, but then something happened and I’m going to hold our Fearless Leader partially responsible. Or is she our Shiny, Happy Geek Girl nowadays?

Nice to hear the positive feedback on the ads. Not a fan of Becks, but it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this.
And we still use coax all the way.. analog cable for $18/mo FTW! (we watch very little TV…)

The R2 Unit is cool but call me a nerd, for 3 grand I really want R2 to be life size. Then R2 would feel more like part of the family than a toy. For 4 grand I expect the Jet Pack upgrade.

I love the preroll.
I’m a ad lover in general and I want to see ads made professionally not just talk.
Preroll is a good idea and I think won’t bother the people because the ones who want to skip the ad know where to fast forward.
