Neal clicked on a Gizmodo link to look at some headphones on the Urban Outfitters Web site, but before looking at the headphones, he clicked another link that said Swim 2008. He called me over to show me what I think is the best use of the Web to display apparel for sale on the Web I’ve ever seen. Each swimsuit is displayed as a short movie clip and it kind of reminds me of the artwork at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. It’s worth a look and so are the headphones.
The headphones in question are called Grandes and they’re designed by Boosted Mobile. The look like DJ headphones, but they’re made for use with portable media players and MP3 playing cell phones. They also have a push to talk button for answering calls and they remind me of Punky Brewster.
I spent most of Brief 335 highlighting an open source project proposed by Chris Pirillo. I’m in. I want to do whatever I can to help make his vision happen. It’s a great, and much needed idea.

Drupal blows. Joomla is significantly better, has much better developer, plugin, template support.

Styx Rules! err, well ruled…
I have to admit I hardly heard anything Cali said while I explored the musical emotions that the Styx shirt evoked.
By the time I tuned back in Cali had turned into Chris?

If your trying to handle creating video content in a variety of streams I would recommend you have a look at the work of Phil Campbell ( twitter.com/philcampbell ) his http://live.rezpondr.com channel idea would appear to fit your requirements to aggregate and disseminate media across platforms and formats.
Thanks for reading.

I also was distracted by my admiration of the artwork in the Styx logo. Truly fine graphics, well rendered.

The idea of a better CMS, possibly based on Drupal is valid, and needed.
However one critical aspect for me to put effort into using a CMS is compatible, and easy upgrades. A CMS based on a policy of not maintaining upward compatibility forces everyone to face the prospect of needing to be expert in the system and redo their site when the CMS is upgraded. That makes a CMS untenable for me.

A CMS such as what is described by Chris Pirillo is a bit naïve and uniformed. First of all, the issue of the plateform on which this CMS will be concieved is the first question. Should it be PHP or ASP.net or ….? Right now, I am using a Microsoft based solution called DotNetNuke that functions exactly like what Chris is calling for. Now if we want something like WordPress, well, that is another story because WordPress is for bloging where DotNetNuke is for… everything. I say DotNetNuke but there are other examples that try to fit this need. Could it be that none of these CMS’s fit the bill because the integration is not very easy? heummm! Not sure, but to you Chris, it’s time to get out of your office and back in the real world. And for you Cali, keep up the good work! We’re rooting for you and Neil from Canada!

I’m new to this site. Can I marry you? You just ooze loveliness and personality – something seen rarely in this world. Must go slap self back into state of consciousness. Will return for answer to “marriage question” later.

Open Source Projects, such as Drupal are supposed to be just a general framework. It’s a starting point for any CMS. All of those customizations mentioned on Chris’ proposal can be achieved by simply hiring a developer to work on it.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
If you are going to hire a developer anyway, would it not be wise to work with them on what platform to use? If you need help a good developer should have more insight into the best tools for the job.
As a developer I have found that if a CMS fits the need well then great, but when a CMS does not fit and needs changes it may be a mixed blessing. The ones I have looked at are not all that nice once you get very far down into their internals.
By picking a CMS first then hiring someone to make it fit your needs you may well increase your costs and time considerably, with little to show for it.

Styx t-shirt? Were you even alive when they were big?

Chris Pirillo is possibly they worst spokesman ever. Inarticulate, scattered thought process…He couldn’t sell donuts to cops. He is like an uncool McLovin.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is more than I expected for when I stumpled upon a link on Delicious telling that the info here is quite decent. Thanks.
