We had a hard time decided whether the big story for today was the launch of tomcruise.com or that Microsoft bailed on the Yahoo! takeover. I’m still not sure, but everyone should go to tomcruise.com and watch the 25 Years reel. If you don’t find it funny…well…then…nevermind!
Woopra, my favorite analytics tool, now works on a Mac thanks to a recent Java upgrade. My twitter friend, @jeffmccord explains how it works on his blog.
Hitachi has a new set of 1080p displays that are only 1.5 inches thick. Some of their 01 series of displays have a power swivel feature that is remote controlled allowing viewers to turn the display 30 degrees in either direction.
AT&T yanked the rug from underneath iPhone owners by providing free WiFi and then taking it away.
Rubik’s Cube got together with a Kompoloi and had a very cool love child called The NeoCube. It’s a combination of 216 high-energy, rare-earth spherical magnets that connect together in unlimited configurations. They’re good for creativity, focus or just as a cool thing to put on a desk.

Hi Neal and Cali, Good show! I already ordered the NeoCube for me and my boys for school. What a great learning tool for 4th grade science lab. By the way, I enjoyed our meetup last week with Geoff. I was the one making the comments about Dave Ramsey and the flight attendent ringcall. You need to let me know when your BigTrip is coming to Alaska. I have some info for you! (When is Apple going to give us a Bluray option? – hoping for this on the next Mac mini!!)

Ooo Ahhh power swivel!! Invention of the century. I want one now!

NOW THAT’S HOW YOU MAKE GBTV CALI. YOUR A STAR

Thanks so much for highlighting the NeoCube – I really want one! What a cool toy.
Unfortunately I’m having trouble ordering through the NeoCube online store for international orders. It just keeps timing out at the Google Checkout jump. Anyone else experience this?

That Neal cube looks cool, but with all those magnets you’d probably want to keep it away from your computer.
The remote control functionality on the Hitachi tv is awesome. Create if you are feeling lazy or just snuggly on the couch :)

Hey guys great show as usual but did I miss something? No pre-roll? I thought you guys where going to have 4 shows with pre-roll. I got 1/2 way through the show and thought hey wasn’t there suppose to be a pre-roll….
And I too think the NeoCube is very cool going to order one for my desk.

@Scott: The four prerolls are over the course of two months. I was going to spread them out, but I’m thinking now that it’d be best to do them every other episode.

What’s up with the baby (as in infant not small) graphic on the Big Trip indicator in the opening of your show?
May 6th, 2008 at 9:45 am
Cali,
Ah ok I miss under stood, thinking you where going to do the pre-rolls all at once. No worries although I had to rewind the episode since I was thinking about the pre-roll and missed some of the stuff you where talking about :).
Thanks for a great show!

You’re really filling up that monitor in the background with the BigTrip sponsor icons. Soon there will be too many to fit on the screen!

I loved the godaddy advert section.

Thanks for the Woopra update. I hacked my install to work and was avoiding the Java update until I knew if it would mess things up!

Cali and Neal – I hope you truly know how grateful I am for discussing my blog post. Making the brief (as a topic) has been a dream of mine forever and the fact that maybe my post has helped others out there is worth every single second of writing and researching the post.
THANK YOU.

Yet another great show. I was actually introduced to the power swivel thing last year. My girlfriend has one at her house – the first time I saw it move it scared the crap out of me!! And of course after she explained what happened I was incredulous ^_^ She thinks I’m such a nerd, hehe (well I am afterall…)
Also the neocube thing looks pretty awesome, but I would be scared to bring it into my recording studio o_0 I could just see me dropping some of the balls and sending them rolling straight towards my rack full of delicate electronic gear 0.0 Also, they say it takes 8 weeks minimum for shipment, which is a deal killer for me.
And lastly, I never even realized there wasn’t a mac version of woopra in the first place, lol. I put my sites up for consideration almost immediately after your special about it, and I just got acceptance last week. Unfortunately Java 6 is a pain in the arse, and is very poorly documented (took me forever to figure out that I needed to go into java preferences, isn’t this a little counter-intuitive?!!) Also I use cyberduck for ftp transfers, and it will not work at all with Java 6 at the top of the list, and woopra will not work at all with Java 5 at the top >_< *sigh* c’mon Sun Micro, get it together!
Peace,
-David

You shouldn’t let children play with those magnets. If they eat a few, they can become stuck together with intestines in between them and it can basically cut off the digestive system requiring major surgery.
I’d rather you roll ad’s about beer than to show those tiny, powerful magnets to kids (in reference to your sensitivity about showing GBTV to students). I can’t believe teachers aren’t up in arms about you showing those magnets on GBTV.
Google “magnets intestine necrosis”

I love your show and learn so much but something happened and it wont load to my ipod tonight. I subscribe through iTunes and unfortunately I am not very tech savvy. I hope someone can help me out. Thanks, Ann in So. Cal.

Just an update – the NeoCube store is working now. Just ordered one! I really hope it takes less than 8 weeks, but I won’t get my hopes up…
May 6th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
@Ann – What exactly happened? Did you get an error?
May 7th, 2008 at 12:51 am
@Boots – are you serious?
Any kid you enough to be at risk of eating a NeoCube ball should not be able to independently acquire one. It’s the parents’ responsibility to not allow children young enough, to be at risk of what you describe, have the chance.
Advertising alcohol to a person of any age has therefore, I believe, a much greater risk of being harmful. And that does not mean that I disapprove of GeekBrief.tv running ads for Beck’s.

Tom Cruise is a bit out there, but you have to admit there he has put out some great movies in the last 25 years. I’m in no way a fan of his, but when he gets into a roll he pulls it off, in a big way.
As fare as AT&T and the I phone. I phone users should get free Wi Fi at AT&T hot spots, its the least AT&T could do for all the BS the I Phone user has to put up with. I think Wi Fi should be free for any one at Starbucks. If I’m paying four bucks for a cup of coffee, I should not have to pay for the luxury of sitting in their lobby and checking my e-mail. As a matter of fact Starbucks is the only coffee house I know of that charges for the use of their hot spots, like they can’t afford to dish out for a free connection.

I love the description of the corporate bargain-jargon used by M$ and Yahoo! Blah, blah … blah! (LOL) I have my own way of describing that wouldn’t be appropriate to mention here.
As always, the audio and video quality of your podcast are fabulous. Podcasts and GeekBrief.TV are my alternative of choice to the lame programming of broadcast and cable TV channels.
I don’t EVEN OWN a TV set any more. Who needs one when you have an Apple computer?
Happy Friday!
^-^~

NeoCube rocks!
You need to post tips and tricks…
How the heck did you get the square to stay together?
Thanks for the tip on a great creative time waster!!!!

Amazing, I found this site on yahoo searching for something completely unrelated- and now I’m gonna need to go back and go through all the archives :) Good bye my free time today, but this was a awesome find!
