Asus is pretty good with the cute names. Their new tiny desktop PC will run Linux or XP and they’re calling it the Eee Box B202. It’ll be available in the States in July.
Western Digital has a new WD Scorpio Black 2.5 inch SATA hard drive for notebooks that’s 7200 RPM. It’s supposed to be available today, but we couldn’t find it anywhere.
JBL’s Control NOW speakers are specially shaped to be mounted at 90 degree intersections like corners and ceilings.
The iClooly is a little desktop stand that makes an iPod Touch look like a tiny little iMac.
SawStop is billed as “The World’s Safest Table Saw” and based on the Weenie video they use as a demo, I think they’re right.

Cali, the thought of having my finger cut off with a saw made me squirm! heh

The Eee box looks very cool! I think it’d make a nice media center or a small server of some sort.
And how does the saw know it has hit a finger? Amazing! I’m very protective of my fingers as a pianist and geek, so thanks a lot for sharing.
Also, I bought a Drobo today with your promo code today and I’m very excited. Thanks for that as well and I hope it helps you!

Considering I already use four different computers, including the Asus EEE PC, it’s not a matter of what I would do with the B202, it’s what someone else could potentially do with it. I think that it is the perfect gift for a college student from parents who are on a tight budget. Also, the computer is extremely space efficient which is essential in a crowded dorm. Let’s just hope that they release and market this computer prior to the holiday season.

I would defiantly use it for a media server.

I have seen the sawstop in action they had them in one of the places i use to work. They are really cool… but i dont think i would want to test it with my own hand. Can you imagine “alright we just created this saw we know it works with hotdogs who wants to try it with their own hand…just to make sure it works!”

The description “Wee little box” sure is coincidental since the body AND the Eee Stick controller both resemble that of Nintendo’s Wii.

I will replace the the knobs & such in my camaro with a touch screen for radio, nav, heat & Air, and maybe Paper Route navigation or at least that’s the dream.

The Saw Stop video is just plain cool…that saw has to be the definition of Technology…

Cali,
I would use it to hookup broadband wireless for my wife to stay online while we drive. Or if that doesn’t work I’ll use it to rule the world! Bwwaaaaaaa ha ha haaaaaaaaa. Cough Cough >:D

Cali: I have done a couple of stories on SawStop for the Business Journal. It is a great company.

The Eee Box B202 is neat. It’s going to basically play the role of the Apple TV for me, should I ever get it. I have a feeling it will struggle with true high def video though.
As for a car pc, it’s an excellent little option IMO. I have not looked back into it, but there were some nice interfaces folks made. My only gripe was leaving the computer in suspend so I can have instant on (and thus instant music) when I turn on my car would put a drain on the battery. And the fact I still need a decent touch screen.
I’m far more interested in the mass wave of Atom based tiny laptops. The MSI Wind looks like the best one for me right now. I’m trying to hold off for a second version.. but it’s so tempting

The ASUS Eee Box B202 looks neat. I’ve been thinking of sticking a Windows PC in my home media setup….for those times where I can’t do it on a Mac. Just wonder if it’ll be fast enough for all that I might want to do, and whether I’ll be able to work it from the sofa.
But, I think a tiny laptop is more what I’ll get next….though it’ll probably run Linux.

Ok….The saw is great, but I think I will pass. I don’t really want to be the person that the sensor fails on while I’m trying to prove to friends it won’t cut off your finger.
I did by the Drobo using your promo code. Love it. And I registered my first website name using one of your codes. Although I have no clue what to do next. But I have it for 5 years. :)

I would most definetly consider the eee box for my HTPC setup. If it can accomodate a bluray drive, of course.
The best thing about vendors offering linux is that you can bypass the hefty windows license fee tagged atop all other hardware. You then buy hardware, and *only* hardware, which is what youre really in the market for when you think about it.

Will the icooly be sold by anyone here in the good old USA or can you only get it from Japan??????? I GOTTA have one!

The SawStop is definitely a great product, thanks so much for sharing! I work for a rural school system and forwarded their web site address to the shop teacher. I wish there was a way to retrofit my table saw. It would be hard to be a Geek without my fingers.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
SawStop has been around for about five years. I believe they were trying to get the govt. to make their technology mandatory on all table saws. It only makes sense.

I have to say when I saw the words weenie and Table Saw together in the same sentence I was a little scared to watch this brief. However after I had watched it, I can only think of my high school shop teacher who would from time to time throw up a nub (where once was a pointer finger) and say “the number one rule in my shop, safety”.

I wish I could afford the saw stop in my shop (here at Ukunto Woodworking)… Isn’t it weird how some hobby carpenters have the best tools, but the pro’s don’t? Well, sadly it is a question of when, so I’m extra careful. Oh and Neal, please be sure not to accidentally cut into your fence (sliding miter gauge), or anything metal, the saw will stop and your blade will be wrecked. In my case that’s expensive fun. Some of my blades cost $100 and up (custom high precision blades, extra sharp for cutting of fingers …. even the thought of that gives me shivers).
And last, what I would do with a teeny tiny PC? I would probably use it in my shop, carefully packed away from the dust, but I’d love to bring you all news right from out there, right where the action is :-)
Cheers, Hans

Hi, I just thought I’d post and let you know your website layout is really messed up on the Firefox browser. Seems to work ok in IE however. Anyways keep up the great work.
