Did you buy the creator or get the trial?
Considering windows requires a reinstall periodically (due to viruses/spyware) I don’t think limiting spore to 3 installs is good for the consumer. What is your opinion of the DRM built into spore/creature creator?

Saw the oil producing bacteria on one of the tech rss feeds… I think it’s a dangerous step if it actually proves to be viable. It may turn oil into a renewable source, and we’ll have cheap gas again… but it sure ain’t clean. The question is can this somehow still fuel a drive for clean renewable energy?
as for the iphone comment.. there’s a many simple reasons. I don’t want to pay $30/mo for data. iPhone 2.0 isn’t really out yet, this is 1.5. I don’t want to drop my contract to go to AT&T. The iPhone is the most innovative phone out there, yes, but I think there’s been too much RDF factor this time around.

If the bugs get out of control, i suppose they could turn lots of stuff into oil that we’d rather remain stuff. Otherwise, it’s a good idea.

I’m seeing more and more cell networks promoting iPhone like capable devices. It’s all thanks to Apple. If they hadn’t bullied their way into it, everyone would have the same old same old. I predicted this last year. I suppose there was alot of that going on back then.

I really think you should post your reason for taking it down. It would quell your users interest. Not to mention if you do not feel like promoting it the reson is probably relevent to the rest of us.

The oil produced by the little buggies is supposed to be low carbon, so it is much greener than our standard oil. I think its a great short term solution. We will not be able to completely convert to a new fuel source over night!

The bio-oil is interesting. But, from my understanding you would need a facility the size of Chicago (over 200 square miles) to meet consumption needs. Unfortunately, I think we are in a short-term hurt when it comes to energy. Any solution we find now will take years to develop.

As far as oil goes, from an ecological standpoint we have to get off oil within the next 10 to 15 years. No, we don’t have the infrastructure to start creating oil in large amounts quickly using new bio-tech methods, but if we spend billions and billions on drilling for oil and then run out (and we will eventually run out) we still have to spend additional money on new infrastructure. If we can send men to the moon in eight years can’t we create the needed infrastructure and technologies for getting off drilled oil in ten years and then be off oil in about 15 to 20 years? It takes a commitment by many governments, many companies, and individual people. Sorry, as an Ecologist I’m a little pissed off about the current situation…but how about those creature creations!

I realise you have no obligation to tell us why you chose to remove the original version of episode #377, but my player caught the early version (at least I think it did) and I’ve watched the reposted version. I can’t find any difference.
As I’ve been watching the breif for several months now(I took the time to go back to the first and watch all), I’ve come to learn at least the views you express via this venue agree with my own. I have to assume that whatever was important enough for you to remove the posting is important enough for me to care about.

Thanks for the story on the oil alternative. Sure, it’ll take a while to switch, but the short term effect, when the oil tycoons see us trying to develop viable alternatives will hopefully be positive. Who knows…maybe they’ll get in on the act as well? Hopefully they won’t just buy the rights and sit on it for another 40 or 50 years. I’ve also bookmarked the site for bacon mints and bacon floss! w00t! Oh, and I’m downloading spore creature creator for Mac!

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
