Shownotes:
CEDIA Update #6 covers the LG DP889 Digital Photo Frame. The thing that makes this frame different is the built in DVD player and twin earphone jacks. There are some downsides, as there are to every digital photo frame I’ve seen. What have you guys bought? What do you like about your choice? What don’t you like? Leave a comment!
The 1394 Trade Association and HANA got together to demo Firewire 800 data distribution via standard coax.

Loving the quick briefs!

I use the eStarling digital photo frame. It has wifi so it automatically grabs pictures I upload to a dedicated site for the frame. I can email photos to the site or it can grab pictures from a few different photo sites. I use Flickr and it works great. Sure it can take a number of different memory cards but I use it in a wifi zone. I can also set the frame to automatically shut off when I’m at work or at night when asleep. It’s really great to use with family and friends. Now they can just email a photo to the frames email address and it will auto display. No transfering of files for me.

BTW – no monthly fee.

:) I second the vote on the quick briefs. It’s definitely the way to cover a trade show/expo/whatever these are called.

I miss the out-takes. I prefer a longer brief, maybe two minutes at time. If you need to break up the briefs to cover big events. I would have liked to hear more about the Firewire stuff. I (very much) enjoy watching the brief – keep at it.

Hi Cali,
Enjoying the regularity of the briefs, but sometimes they seem a little short, and you’re talking 100mph to fit everything in!! ;)
I early adopted a digital frame (in fact, I even started making one out of an old clam-shell iBook cause they weren’t in stores yet…) but I just can’t warm to them. They don’t seem to have the same nostalgic value for me, and too often the quality of the screen isn’t good enough for it to “feel” like a photo… maybe one day!

agree that I would like a digital photoframe but havent yet seen one I like:
problems: poor/ clunky design, cheaply built/ frame, lack funtionality, poor design for hanging on a wall (ie wires) doesn’t travel well, expensive

Hi Cali! I love your new site design and player (mostly – see further down). I think the short episodes are fine, but I agree with others that no out-takes at the end makes me sad. They really add a personal touch to your cast and makes them feel less like the more formal news you get with most sites or with TV. I also think you should bring back your “thanks for watchin’!” signoff. It’s way cuter. :) One thing I don’t like about the player is that it auto-plays the next episode or previous ones but there doesn’t appear to be a way to configure it differently. Also, it always plays in “high” for me to start out with. I click “HD” and it starts over, but when it auto-plays the next or previous show it defaults back to “high”. It should be able to remember or at least have a configuration to save.
Those are just small nitpicks. Overall, I love the show and keep up the great work you are doing. I love you guys!

Any news about the USB 3.0 ? Detailed specs were out with news that it can transfer upto 4.7 Gigs/sec.

I noticed in the background that the people isn;t moving. if she isn’t actually there then why is she doing quick episodes?

I’m liking the new look of the site. Also Archos 7 > LG digital photo frame. WiFi, internet, movies (with lots of codecs), pictures, and up to 325 GB.

I am also enjoying the “snippits” from the show. However, I did notice that in the “Fast Credits” it seems to be saying that you are at MacWorld. Hmmmm. If these were recycled, very environmental of you.

Hey Cali and the Geekbrief gang!
Really love the show and got so hooked I spent a rainy afternoon watching all the back episodes from iTunes. The quick clips are great for covering the show but like an earlier poster I miss the outtakes and the tagline “thanks for watching.”
I didn`t find any digital frames I really liked in my search so I adapted some tech I already had around. I bought a Philips DCP850/37 8.5-Inch Portable DVD Player which has an iPod dock and takes SD cards for when I am on the road (around 200 days a year). When I am home it gets a spot on the wall and gets used as a digital picture frame. Like the LG it plays multiple DVD formats and has twin headphone jacks which I quite like.

I have the Westinghouse 14.1 Digital Photo Frame DPF1411 and I love it! My favorite thing about it is the mosaic mode which lets you display multiple images at once. The smaller Westinghouses have that option too but the pictures are pretty small in mosaic mode on those. It hangs on my wall at work and scrolls through pictures all day.
