Shownotes:

If we ever have kids, I really want the Origami Stroller. It automatically folds or unfolds by pushing just one button, and charges by pushing it.

Vincent Laforet had the chance to use the Canon 5D Mark II camera I told you about last week. He shot a short film with a $5,000 budget and thinks the camera is fantastic. He says he believes it’ll be back ordered for a year. Definitely take a few minutes to read about his experience.

Pentax released a DSLR for noobies. If you’re making the jump from point and shoot to DSLR, take a look at the K-m (also known as the K2000 in the US).

So are you coming over to photokina this week? Do you need an interpreter? :-)

  2. Bob Jarvis Says:

Wow, can’t wait to see the video for the Canon 5D Mark II. Do we know what the price is going to be set at in the US. Of course taking pictures in low light also requires a good lens. I wonder if he we explain what type of lens he uses with this video he is shooting and stills etc.

  3. Cali Lewis Says:

Nope, we won’t be able to make it to Germany this week. :)

The price will be $2700 for just the body.

  4. Linh Says:

Would you like to send a correspondent to Germany? =)

I scoffed at the video features (on both this and the D90) at first. Especially when I saw what happens on the D90 when you do quick motion at 720p (it looks wavy, try it). But now that I think about it, 5-12 minutes is plenty of time… how often in movies do we see a continuous scene that long? Ok, 5 minutes might be short, but 12 is fine. It also makes for some creativity.

btw, your “his experience” link doesn’t seem to go anywhere.

However, Cali, don’t get too caught up in the tech in cameras.. as hard as it is to say that given your/our nature. You’ll be jumping from system to system doing that. I’m a Canon user, and almost wish I had a D300, given it’s quality. But in the end, I’m happy to see the competition. The lack of innovation from Canon since they’ve been on top needs some challenging.

You can have my kid if you want.

  6. AlienSpaces Says:

Oh Jeez did i just say that out loud?

  7. Randy Says:

I wouldn’t be jumping the Nikon ship just yet. The D90 also does video. The next full frame DSLR from Nikon will probably do video. I agree with Linh, you can’t jump from camera to camera, or you will end up with 3 or 4 systems from different manufacturers and limit yourself to basic equipment from each of them due to the cost. You chose Nikon for some reason to begin with. What was it? That reason is still valid. You want more camera, they have it. All it takes is $$$. Competition will drive both of these companies to put out the best equipment with the best features and bring the rest of the photography world with them. Just wait for the next great thing. You know it’s coming.

    Hey Cali!

Thanks for the link to Vincent’s blog!…very cool!!!
Don’t worry about being a Nikon user. There are some incredibly cool features to the D3 and D300. I shoot with Canon, Nikon, and Leica. They each have features i enjoy!

    Thanks again for another great

Cali I am really loving the new and much improved Geek Brief site.

  10. Sudi Says:

Have you checked Vincent’s blog or the Canon DL Site? Because of the many-many viewings (more than 1000000 downloads for a week) Canon and Vincent stopped the sharing of the video and now they are on finding out another way for broadcasting. Amazing… I’m so excited because I couldn’t watch it yet!

Grats for the new design, I really like it!
