Shownotes:
I got my hands on a new, unibody 15″ MacBook Pro. This is the unboxing and a closer look at the design. This model is 2.53GHz, a 320GB hard drive and 4GB RAM. As I mentioned before, it has the GeForce 9600M GT Graphics Processor, however the 17″ design is NOT being made with the new unibody design.
The MacBook Pros have an ethernet port, one firewire 800 port, two USBs, a Mini DisplayPort, and ExpressCard slot. The MacBooks have an ethernet port, two USBs, and a MiniDisplayPort. No more firewire ports.
One of the things that struck us about this unboxing is that it was the first time we unboxed a laptop and felt like the experience was as simple as unboxing an iPod.

Cali, that tab right when you opened the box… you were suppose to pull it to get the macbook pro out =)
The black keys rock, the screen frame… eh, I’m not a fan of it. More importantly, the glossy screen.. ugh. And I agree, an all black aluminum macbook would be great.. so long as they don’t charge us $200 for the color change.
BTW, that’s target disk mode, no? That is now GONE from the 13″ new macbook… arguably one of the nicest features of Apple hardware because you can do what you just did for transferring.
How is the glossy screen for you?
Also, I’d argue that flickr and smugmug are different targets… I’m using them both now =)

Wow!! The new MacBook Pro is really amazing,,, I like the glossy screen thats like the cinema display… Really waiting to get the new MacBook this Christmas…
By the way, the brief was a good tutorial for knowing how to transfer data from my old Mac…
Also, thanks for your GoDaddy coupon codes, I saved a lot with GB3 on my new domain.

I going to wait and see if Apple gives in and adds a firewire 400 to the Pro and/or adds both 400 and 800 to the MacBook….I want more ports NOT less…come on Apple bring back the ports because I love these new MacBooks and I will buy one!

That Macbook looks sweet! It now truly fits the iMac, MacBook, and Mac Pro look.
BTW, I loved your dance routine during the intro video for Leopard. Your enthusiasm is one reason why I watch GeekBrief!

Excellent show! The park setting was a beautiful location. It was good to see the new 15″ next to a 17″, and who knew that Cali could dance so well. Have a great trip.

Wow the reflection on that screen looks super annoying.

I also purchased a Macbook Pro, and I am very happy with it. It is slightly heavier, but it is such a nice machine in all!

People watch this show?
i guess it proves people will watch anything with a rack and a pretty face.
I found this episode as entertaining and informative as last weeks newspaper.

You know you’re in Oregon when the coffee kicks in and your hand shake begins! Just wait until the the micro brews sneak up on you.

Beautiful MacBook Pro!
I cringed when you used your unorthodox method to remove the Mac instead of pulling up on the tab as mentioned above.
I have no problems with the reflection. I bet someone comes out with a sticker that you can put over your screen to make it anti-glare. I thought it would be bad when I got my 24″ iMac but instead I am appreciating how much better my photographs look.
Extension cords on top of flammable wood – I love it! :)

*Drools* That Mac Book looks soo sexy! What are you doing w/ your old one ;P

I have been sitting on the fence to buy a new Mac Laptop as an extra computer now for some time. And just once I think Apple has come out with a price point and performance that makes me think OK I will spend $1200.00 for that. They do one silly thing that may for ever prevent me from owning a Mac Laptop.
This high-gloss finish on the screens is just awful. I have tried a few laptops with it and I always find that the fact I can see my own face in it is a real pain. In today’s show you could really see how much more reflection you see on the new screen vs the old one. I don’t know why Apple has not given the option of a non-reflective finish. I think it is a real shame and will prevent long time MAC lovers form being able to purchase a new laptop.

First of all: Sam – yes, people do watch this show (some of us quite faithfully). Beauty, brains, and tech savvy…what more could you ask for?
Cali, I’m really happy to hear that HP is a sponsor. Does this mean that us PC types will get some more air time, along with the Macs?

Nice unboxing, but wow is that screen annoying. It’s even worse than the already annoying normal glossy screens. At one point you cannot see the screen at all. The reflections are even brighter than the brightest part of the screen (and the day doesn’t even seem to be sunny?). At home glossy might be ok, but on a notebook… Thanks for the video and the location of the unboxing, it’s a wonderful demonstration of how awful that display is.
Thanks Apple, nice try, but at least make matte an option. I think (and kind of hope) that many people will not buy the new MBs and MBPs and let Apple know about it. It’s not like you can’t get solid notebooks from other brands and install OSX on them.
Ps: Why only 2 USB ports? On an 15″ device? I usually have more than 2 devices attached to my notebook at home.

Awesome!! I love your new MBP, Cali! :) Great episode as usual.

WOW that is a beautie, Cali. The New MacBook Pro looks better than i thought it would, and i really didn’t notice any (glare) on the screen from being outside. Thanks for showing that

awesome episode! i like how the shots were done in the park -makes for a more interesting unboxing. this episode in particular is a very handy way to share with my online non-geek friends what the new macbook pro would be like for them. :)
October 20th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
WOW the unboxing was cool but where did you get the Mac hoodie?
October 20th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I like how the HP media server is sponsoring the apple unboxing.

Where can I get one of those apple hoodies at? My fiancee liked it.
