Shownotes:
I’ve been thinking about loading Boxee on my Apple TV for a while. I finally got to it, thanks to encouragement from John Mahoney at Gizmodo. He published a step-by-step guide. It’s was extremely easy. The difficult part was finding my missing Apple TV so I could install the Boxee app.
If you don’t already have a Boxee account, you can fast-track an invite with this link: Boxee.tv/geekbrieftv

I’ve got an account and am getting ready to jump. One question: Does Boxee appear to leave all the pre-existing Apple TV functionality intact?

Cali – I’m still on the waiting list to get Boxee… do you know how to truly “fast track” it?
Thanks for doing this! I talked about it on Moxie Mo Show #32 and I’ve been hoping someone I trust would install it so I can see it in action!
Thank you!

My only problem is that the patchstick software is Mac only and I’m still a windows user. Time to upgrade to a Mac? Or is it time for a Hackintosh?

Dave it does leave everything intact. I love having it! Between catching up on TV shows I actually watched a movie on Hulu also. It does add commercials but very few and not really annoying to me. Vid quality is fine, not top notch, but fine (I am wireless so maybe that has something to do with it). Really adds a new dimension to having AppleTV.

Cali,
This looks like it will drive me to finally make that AppleTV purchase. Connecting my PC or Mac (yes, I have both) to my Plazma is getting tiring but Hulu and such really seal the deal.
I signed up for an account using your link today. Lets hope your really infulential as I’ll have my Apple TV within a week and be chomping at the bit to try Boxee.

I got on the Boxee alpha waiting list a week or so ago when Leo mentioned it on Twit again. I just tried with the link above and still got an email about a backlog. Has anyone been on the backlog list and actually gotten an invite? All the reviews I’ve seen seem to be coming from high profile folks who were given invites directly. When do the little people get a chance?

Hi Cali,
I’ve been a long time fan of your show. Been watching the podcasts on my ATV for some time now (the HD feed looks great btw).
I, too, am anxiously awaiting my invite for Boxee. As member yourself, you can issue your own invites, correct? Perhaps you can send those invites out to us here. Pretty please? :)
Thanks!

All,
I read the article on Monday and followed the link in the article for getting in on the action and Tuesday I was in :-) the article says the link will fastrack gizmodo readers. make no mistake, you will see why its still in alpha. but buggyness aside, it has enormous potential

I believe it will not work with music etc purchased from Itunes – is this true?
