Shownotes:
If you’re thinking of switching to a Mac and think it might be just too difficult, take a look at the Belkin Switch-to-Mac Cable. It’ll help you move your email, settings, photos and music over to the Mac.
We keep talking about VisualHub. Thanks to AutomatedHome.com who found Format Factory, a Windows video conversion tool.
HDClone 3.6 is designed to create copies of software and OS installs. I’m looking forward to trying it.
Start looking forward to USB 3.0, which launches next Monday. It should be a drool worthy update.
The Google iPhone app (not released as of this taping) does voice based search, also including location based search and the iPhone’s sensors and accelerometer.
Rovio is sponsoring this episode of The Brief. You can also take over Rovio’s controls and test drive him at MeetRovio.com.

Hi Cali, loved the latest brief, roll on USB 3.0! Just a quick question, in the closing credits where is that lovely shot of the beach taken? Regards, Alan.

Sad but download factory only works on a PC.

Hi, I tried Stash My Mail that you spoke about in the last brief, and have issues with it. I entered my GMail address and it said that I have 5570 mails. Then I selected the “Download All Mails” option and it downloaded a zip file with only mails labelled “Home” and “Work” and not All Mails…
Any ideas??

@Alan: The beach shot is from Oregon.
@jash: If I hear of a solution, I’ll let you know! Anyone else having the issue?
@zaobz: The fireplace video is at http://www.iyule.tv

What is the name of the google app that you talked about on 464? Thanks and I love your podcasts.
November 15th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Thanks Cali. BTW, HDClone was really helpful. I just moved my Windows 7 installation to my external drive so I could use XP back on my notebook. I have also done a small preview on Windows 7 PDC 08 build today with the Windows 7 booting time, new features and performance. Its at: http://vimeo.com/2249478
@Pinc.
The Google app that Cali talked about is an upcoming update of the same old Google Mobile app. Look for Google Mobile App in the AppStore if you dont have it, or else wait for the update.

Cali,
What’s your favorite thing to get at Chipotle? I MUST know!
November 15th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Haha! I usually get a Bol with rice, black beans, chicken, hot sauce, sour cream and cheese. Sometimes I’ll get a burrito that same way.
What about everyone else?

Cali, can HD clone free be used to restore an image for my annual windows re-install?
November 16th, 2008 at 8:47 am
That’s my understanding, Frizit! The website (listed in the shownotes above) lists everything it does.
November 16th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Is there something like Format Factory for OS X?
November 17th, 2008 at 2:02 am
Hi Cali,
I tried using HDClone Free but it did not work for Disk to Partition cloning, So I purchased HDClone Professional. I did a successful clone of my internal HD to partition 2 of my external drive. However, I can see the partition in Computer Management as Unknown and it doesn’t get mounted…
Any ideas abt it??

JLM.. install ffmpeg, and ffmpegx.
ffmpeg has all the goodies to convert pretty much any video file to any video file, RIPs DVD’s, VCD’s.. and much more.
Best of all its free and opensource.
ffmpegx is the gui. a must have unless your an uber command line geek.

It seems now every techie site has announced the Google change, but it is not going to happen unless Apple releases it.
November 17th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
@Lloyd Woods
I doubt that. I don’t think Apple might hold an app by Google. They usually allow apps by Google, Facebook, etc. without much checking…
I guess Google might not have submitted the app to the AppStore. It would appear as a update in a few hours of submission.

Cali,
How come you can get HD on the main page when you click on the video and on the show page you don’t get that option?
Dale
November 17th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Oh, just because I haven’t switched out the player. Sorry about that. After the conversion happens, I usually switch it out. I’ll do that now.

Thanks Travis

Cali, since your brief aired, it seems something has happened to the Format Factory’s website. Was it too good to be true? Did their domain expire? It was up a few days ago but is not today. Do you know what happened? Do you have another video conversion recommendation?
Thanks!
