Great list. How do you compare the Drobo product versus the HP Media Server? The top level duerence is clear. Surprised not a favorite.

I have two gripes with hulu. 1) lately, it’s been stuttering for me quite a bit, even at the lowest resolution and at work (where I have a 10mbps u/d connection. It’ll be fine for 3/4 of the show, then suddenly, stutter. Commercials of course, are free from this phenomenon. and 2) no way to buffer/download shows DVR style. I’d be content with lightweight software that maintained it all, but it could help w/ issue 1.
And I would argue your #1 pick should be the actual release of Nikon’s entry of CMOS sensors. They really stepped up their game several notches to match canon in the SLR world. The 5DmkII to me actually feels as though canon was sleeping at the helm. Hopefully it will spur some really good competition. The D3x is really pushing it to Canon now. But I’ll stick w/ my 20D/40D as the dust settles, heh.

I’ve been using an Apple TV for a couple years now, and thinking about buying a second for my bedroom. I run iTunes on a dedicated “server”, which has all of my music, DVD collection, TV Show seasons from iTunes, video podcasts, etc. I rent movies on it regularly (which is awesome).
I’ve noticed the great fanfare associated with having a Boxee hack for the Apple TV, but I don’t understand what makes this so great. I have a Boxee account, and have the app installed on my mac. It really just seems to be a consolidation point for websites like Hulu and can stream media from your home network (which the Apple TV does well already).
Other than Hulu, what’s the big deal? The addition of yet another “social network”? Is it the ability to stream directly from network shares instead of running iTunes?
You can stream to the Apple TV from any machine on a network that has permission to do so. You can control it from an iPhone/iPod over Wifi. It uses Flickr/MobileMe/Picasa photos as a cool backdrop (or can be used to browse those galleries). The iTunes store allows you to rent a lot of new movies, and usually in HD. It’s by far the best method for watching video podcasts.
In the scope of these abilities, features like Hulu streaming, torrents, or another social network to deal with, seem relatively minimal. Am I missing something? Hulu is neat, and a great step forward by Big Media, but it’s also not primetime yet. When it is, do you think they will let anyone be the user interface for the content? Especially an “open source” effort?
