Shownotes:
We’re going retro on today’s Brief! Sleevefacing is a fad that could (perhaps) be helping the vinyl record industry. There is even a book! The AV Room Portable USB Turntable has built in stereo speakers and USB so you can digitize all those records.
The Nomad Portable Speaker looks like it’s from the 1930’s.
If you’ve been around Geek Brief for a while, you know how much I love the Model One Radio, designed by Henry Kloss. It sounds great, and it looks good wherever you put it.
Rollie has a miniture and digital version of their Rollieflex camera. If any of you know the book I talk about in the show, leave a comment please!
The Nostalgia Peanut Butter Maker makes making peanut butter easy and looks retro. Fresh peanut butter is a great thing to have in life!

Is that a Alabama hat I see in the background? Who is the Tide fan?
December 11th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Neal was given that hat, and it looks good on him. Neither of us are fans, sorry! :)

Hey, I recently found your site and was wondering what program you use for your intro graphics and such. I do a webcast for our local newspaper and I’m curious about making cool graphics like that. I know my way around FinalCut Pro and LiveType but I want to learn new things. Thanks! Like the show a lot! (I looked in the podcasting tips, but couldn’t find any software that did graphics. Maybe FCP does and I just don’t know it.)

Hmmm…might have to get Neal a Florida Gators hat! :)

Watch out everyone!
I was really excited about that peanut butter making machine and quickly followed the link.
Then I saw the price… $59.99
EGADS!
Well, I thought, my girlfriend would love it, but let me see if I can find some reviews to make sure it’s awesome.
A quick Google search later finds the SAME EXACT machine (PBM-200) on Amazon for only $18.99 !!!!
In the end I didn’t buy it do to the not so good reviews on Amazon, but I wanted to let everyone know not to buy it from that nostalgia site, it’s a huge rip off.
I could see charging $5 or $10 more or even $15 more because your a small site and specialize in nostalgia products, etc. But $41 dollars more?
Give me a break.

Love the podcast. Also liked the opportunistic show on the RC helicopter–fascinating stuff.
Sorry to gripe, but I’m also a grammar geek (blame Grammar Girl podcast). Please “home in” rather than “hone in”. To hone is to sharpen. To home in is to get closer to or zero in on.
