Shownotes:
John C. Dvorak, aka Mr. Cranky Pants, is one of our virtual mentors and I caught him on the show floor at Macworld. We talked about his crankiness, his blog dvorak.org/blog, his show Tech 5, his show No Agenda, his aggregator site channeldvorak.com and the future of Apple beyond Steve Jobs.
If you want to promote yourself or your business online, John is one of the best people to study.

Cali,
Love your show and appreciate your coverage of MacWorld.
BUT;)
You don’t believe in Global Warming?
Wow.
There’s plenty of debate about what to do about it and what the cause is but the debate about whether it actually exists or not is a false one.
It’s real. It’s here.

What’s with the minutes and minutes of blank at the end of the repost? Also, who noticed the boy in the background at 2:27 =P?

I thought this was going to be the longest brief ever, instead we had 9 minutes of black. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

I don’t believe in global warming as it is sold by environmentalists either. While I definitely try to be as “green” as possible, I think the climate changes in cycles that have little to do with us.
In fact, wouldn’t trying to prevent so-called “global warming” actually be an unnatural thing?

Miro downloaded the show twice, second time (HD) repost | John C Dvorak. Both had Cranky Pants, with credits and eight or nine minutes of dead air.
Whether or not Global Warming as hyped by the media is real or not, its immoral to waste resources and pollute the air and water. Which means its probably immoral to run a Pentium 4….

Hey, that’s ME in the beginning, smiling and trying to get OUT of the shot! (Sorry Neal and Cali!)
I had a great time talking to you Neal, I didn’t realize how super-great a guy you are in person! Thanks!

Oh no! The “woven bacon guy” was right there and I didn’t get his autograph??? Sorry I missed you, Pete!

Was John saying that as a conservative commentator that he does or doesn’t believe there is evil in the world trying to screw us out of our money? And Cali agreed?
For your consideration: ExxonMobile and CheneyHaliburton.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Yes, John was saying something, he was saying that Cali is a pretty woman. Its true, but he doesn’t get many analysis points for that one.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:53 am
CheneyHaliburton? Ummm, no one told you about Kennedy Oil and oh, Haliburton is a company owned at one time by the Johnson family. Also, praised during the first golf war for cleaning up the oil rig fires in the gulf. And between them and some foreign company getting the contract, yeah, I all for Americans getting the work.
Aside from that, great interview with the old Crank, Cali.
**I believe that Lady Bird Johnson, before she died, was one of the major shareholders of Haliburton.
**Haliburton had a no bid contract under Clinton. “Evil Clinton?Haliburton”?!?!?!

I don’t buy into the GW either. For a group of people who claim we have been here for millions of years, how do they base such globally changing policies on not even hundreds of years of data?? Since the universe is so big, and are thinking is so small, perhaps this is just a cyclical change? Furthermore, who can even tell us what part of the cycle we’re in?
If they spend the money educating and feeding children globally, then the human race would be much better off long before we all boil to death here on earth.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Global Warming is a naturally-occurring phenomenon. Human’s didn’t cause it and humans cannot stop it.
What we can do is to mitigate its effects by structuring our lives, industries and institutions in order that the way in which we alter the planet and its systems would not be detrimental to our future generations and those of other living beings.
That’s the basic idea, anyway. ^..^~
January 12th, 2009 at 6:05 am
What the heck are the “subtitle ticks” on global warming?? Oo
January 12th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Cali,
Watch your podcast on a regular basis and for the record – I am very happy to see that you don’t believe in “man made” global warming. People are actually worried about something natural and cyclical and with grand delusions think we can “do something” about it.
Michael Crichton had some great speeches he gave about this topic.
Here’s a good one: http://www.michaelcrichton.net/speech-alienscauseglobalwarming.html
He goes into “consensus science”…
January 14th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Luria, wow- in addition to geeks, your audience is filled with environmental scientists who have definitive answers on global warming. Awesome.
Love your show. BTW – why has your old “Crappy Christian Show” disappeared from the nets?
I love that Dvorak calls BS when he sees it, even when I don’t agree and even if it is just part of the schtick of his commercial persona, like any other talking head.
Carey Turner: Flawed logic. Corporations evolve. And are you trying to imply Cheney’s war crimes are a partisan issue? Just because Lady Bird had an interest in a corporation 40 years ago doesn’t mean Cheney is any less of an evil Dick…Cheney. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BEsZMvrq-I

A “mentor”? Dvorak? The guy who has yet to get nearly ANYTHING right in the 10 years I’ve known about him? He even admitted one of his many, many, many incorrect predictions on this very show.
Unless you mean “mentor” in the sense of driving attention for your clueless ramblings, don’t put too much stock in the man.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
so glad to hear someone say that they are not in agreement with the hype around Global Warming.
For the total amount of time man has been on the earth and for the last few, what, hundred years we have been monitoring the temperature, isn’t it very premature to decided on a “policy” that the end of the world is happening soon.
