Shownotes:
The PlusDeck Ex USB Cassette Deck is the ultimate audio conversion box. Not only will it convert your cassettes to MP3, you can use it to convert your vinyl, record radio shows and capture audio from your voicemail.
If you find the iSight to be limiting, you’ll want to take a look at ecamm’s BT-1 Wireless Webcam. It’s bluetooth, with a range of 10-30 feet, and it has tripod threads for attaching to your tripod when the top of your monitor just isn’t cutting it.
Andy Walker gives us a look at possibly the most fun duck hunting game ever, from Interactive Toy Concepts.

I know the video is from Lab Rats, but how do you justify putting your logo on the lower third of their video, even if just for a few seconds. Sorry, but I just don’t think that’s right.
I don’t know their policy on using their videos, but I’m sure they appreciated the mention.
Otherwise, keep up the good work. The green screen seems to be working out pretty well.

@dbkguy Two things. One, everyone uses the same lower third to identify segments and/or people. It’s a given – it’s being identified on our show. I think the thing you misunderstand is that Sean and Andy shot several segments specifically for us to use on GeekBrief.TV. This is one of them. In return, we shot several segments for them at Macworld. Sean gave it to us in full HD along with several others you’ll see in the next few days. I don’t even think this one appeared on Lab Rats, actually.

ah! .. i too listen to recordings from my mom who passed about two years ago .. i didnt think anyone else was doing that ;) it always feels comforting to see others do the seemingly “irrational” things like that we tend to do in those times .. makes you realize alot of other people if not everyone go through this at one point or another..
luckily for me i realized at the time that i wouldnt be able to keep saving the messages over and over and i promptly ‘digitized’ all of my messages to .wav files, and i have now numerous backups in various formats onto various media .. hehe.
ps, the thumbnail still for this brief makes you look like you have a GIANT hand (http://www.geekbrief.tv/wp-content/images/thumbnails/gbtv.0506.png).

That USB cassette deck looks interesting. I just gave up on converting my cassettes, but this would have made it easier.
Also, why would anyone need a makeshift video tripod in a hotel room?

dbkguy – It’s all cool. We did a small content exchange with the GeekBrief team – they were at Macworld during the same time we were at CES, so we traded each other some content. So it’s all as it should be!

Any chance you guys recorded a segment with Sean and Louise. I would love to see a Geekbrief tour of the Odyssey.

@Cali, That media converter box looks cool. As I’ve mentioned before I have tapes of my dad reading me bedtime stories when I was a kid. I finally saved them to my computer and burned a cd. That (and photographs) are a few of the tangible things that I have left. Just to hear his voice again is truly amazing. This is definitely something that I think people would be interested in.

Do you know of anyone that has used one of the PlusDeck’s? All of the initial Google results just give the specs and not much detail on the software that it uses to create the MP3s. From what I understand the software can make a big difference in how useful the hardware is. The USB turntables that I have seen reviewed talked more about the ups and downs of the software as opposed to how good or bad the hardware was.
Long time listener, first time poster. ;-) You do a great job thank you for keeping this going.

No info of someone using it yet.

Heh…..thanks for the Duck Hunter clip in the end credits. I’m the tech reporter at WBMA TV, and more importantly, the guy who had to duck (pun intended) as the thing was released. It was fun getting 2 seconds of fame at CES. ;)

I know I am 18 episodes behind, but if anyone wants to record old voicemail and happens to also have a Google Voice (formerly Grandcentral) account, then just dial your Google Voice number, press 4 to start recording, and then 3-way call into your voicemail. If your interaction with the voicemail system requires pressing a 4 again (say in your password) then just do not add the Google Voice line into the 3-way call until you are at the point where you are playing your messages.
When you are done, there will be the recording in your Google Voice console.
Hope this helps.
