Shownotes:
Mophie announced the Juice Pack Air that looks more like an iPhone case than what it is…a battery pack. It’s the best looking battery pack I’ve seen so far, and will sell for $80 in the spring.
The LaCinema Black Max is an HD Media Server with many features, such as an HDTV tuner, upscaling capabilities, and with it you can access your videos from either Macs or PCs on your network.
Miro 2.0 is now out. Miro does a fantastic job with downloaded video. If you haven’t tried it out before, now’s the time!
You can save money on domain name registrations and renewals from GoDaddy.com with discount codes GB1, GB2 and GB3. For an explanation of each code, click here.

The PDF for the LaCinema Black Max indicates that it is Mac compatible with UPnP Media Server. That refers to a Universal Plug n Play Media Server software application, yes?
For Mac this is typically the VLC player by VideoLan, yes?
Do I understand it correctly to mean then that having the VLC player installed on the Mac enables the Black Max in some way to perform properly?
The system requirements on the PDF indicate XP or Vista are the supported OS, so that seems to indicate that XP or Vista is required for the initial install.
I’m a bit confused as to the actual install and setup process. I’m clear on what the Black Max feature set is and it’s application – just not totally clear on the way it integrates into the Mac side of things.
Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

Downloaded Miro–very cool! I’m a big Hulu fan and now have an app that makes it even more useful on my terms and schedule!

hey Cali,
Regarding the Mophie Air… Have you seen the InCase iPhone battery pack? I picked one up at the NYC Apple Store (5th Ave) before Expo, and it looks just like what the Mophie Air will, when it comes out.

Mophie may get points for being the first on the market with such a battery pack, but the Air looks like they are copying something that’s been available for months…

Umm…I realize it’s geek”brief”.tv, but what the heck is the rush? You’re talking so fast you can’t be understood on just one video play. (Or, could be just me…I can only hear so fast.) :D
Anyways, cut yourself some slack before you pass out.
Cheers!

Miro is so cool… but each HD video is 500Mb plus… It needs so long time to watch one video, therefore, it may not be used as the same which youtube does :)

Hey all,
How do you hook the Miro up to a tv?
Would you use it with a mac mini? Or is it better to just use a AppleTv+Boxee?
Thanks

I’m in the market for a new DVR for my wife. When you mentioned the LaCinema Black MAX – I tried tracking down some details. Found a U.S. reseller for the 500 GB model. They couldn’t answer my questions and referred me to LaCie. Their U.S. division starts out by saying that this product was designed for Europe – and they don’t know much about it.
I want to find a DVR that supports standard definition, analog, NTSC, cable television. It would be nice if it also supported over-the-air HDTV. Any suggestions?

Beware Loren’s words!
True, Incase was the first to make a real protective case that doubles as a battery extender.
However, the case adds enormous amounts of bulk to your iPhone (roughly doubles thickness and weight) and yet fails to really perform in truly doubling my battery life. But the biggest problem with the Incase PowerSlider is that it not a single person has been able to get their iPhone to sync properly with the case even though it is an advertised feature.
I have gotten three replacement Powersliders and am shipping my last one back today for a refund. I suppose I’ll be waiting to hear what people think of the Mophie JuicePack Air. Too bad, because InCase has a solid history of great products, but their PowerSlider is an absolute dud. Perhaps they shouldn’t have rushed to be first, eh Loren?
BUYER BEWARE!

LaCie sales department has informed me that the LaCinema Black Max is not designed for the United States market and is not supported in that region. He would not confirm whether this device would work with U.S. broadcast frequencies or analog or digital signals provided by cable systems.
