GBTV #516 | Hulu & Boxee, 4G, Bushnell HD Torch Flashlight, Omnia HD

Shownotes:
Hulu is being taken off Boxee’s available content. No one is happy about the decision, but Jason Kilar’s approach to the situation is commendable. I get the impression that he realizes having to do this is as boneheaded as we all think it is.
A year ago, I hosted a panel on 4G. Back then, no one was really talking about it except for a select few, but now we’re beginning to see some action. Verizon Wireless chose Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as network vendors for deployment of 4G in the US. This is going to be exciting as it begins to roll out in 2010!
The Bushnell HD Torch Flashlight throws away the circle in a circle projection that we’re used to in a flashlight, and adopts a square beam of light. I think I want one!
Samsung’s Omnia HD is getting a lot of buzz at Mobile World Congress. It has an AMOLED display and shoots 720p video. More details in the video.
We’ll be reading the contest entries for the Bag O’ Schwag live on Ustream. Join us Friday after Dollhouse. Follow me on Twitter for the links and times. Saturday we’ll be at the AMC Best Picture screening. @justdevin won a contest on Twitter so he gets to come with us for free. If you want to join the meetup with us, John Pozadzides from Woopra, and others, you can get tickets here. When we get back from the all day screening, we’ll be announcing the Bag O’ Schwag winner. OMG, Cali the outtake at the end was hilarious, thanks for the laugh.
Seriously finally a flashlight that works, how did we ever put up with the double ring problem all these years. Was the double ring problem a technological barrier or something for the past 6 decades?
Sorry to hear about your friend.

Hey Cali,
For the swag contest, I can not see any more comments after February 18th, 2009 at 5:45 pm. I submitted my entry after that time and it’s not showing up.

I so want the Omnia HD. I have the omnia on verizon and it’s a great phone. With SPB 3.0 that’s coming out soon it will be uber sweet, but the screen on the Omnia HD makes me drool.
BTW, love your podcast, I’ve subscribed since the early days.

Regarding flashlights, you should also check out any of the Surefire flashlights. They are typically designed for tactical/LE/military use, but they are very bright, and very not typical flashlights.

My kids replayed “the burp” at least 25 times. I think it’s their favorite geek brief moment ever.

Gotta say that was a little disappointing (‘cept for the outtake)…
I assume “old media” refers to anybody spending more than $1.50 on production costs and is desperately trying to find a way to pay for it in the current environment. The idea that “old media” hates “new media” is ridiculously simplistic. Somebody in a decision-making position just needs to be convinced that there’s no monetary downside in continuing the Hulu/Boxee connection.
And the ring-in-ring of flashlights actually bothered you? We gotta find you some more important things to be bothered by.

You need to DL and watch @geekbrief # 516 and watch @CaliLewis burp during the outtakes. Too funnay http://tinyurl.com/asf5xz

Cali, I too admire the professional nature that both Hulu and Boxee displayed through this sad event, but I feel it deserves a lot more time than it has gotten here and elsewhere. Its definitely a lose-lose for both parties and a sad situation.
BTW, great belch! Keep up the good work with the podcast. You and Neal both do a great job.
