I guess not everyone is as geeky thou and moi, but I liked your rant on Boxee and Apple. Apple has become quite prim about hacks of its hardware since iPhone and AppleTV came. I guess it's a sign of the times. Hopefully the boffins at Boxee will stay ahead of Apple engineers, and keeps us Boxee fans happy. Stay cool Cali!

Actually, you CAN output HDMI from the Mac Mini. Yes, you could use a standard DVI-HDMI cable, but then you're stuck with analog stereo audio--what fun is that?

Enter the Apogee HDMICVDVI (http://www.apogeeinc.net/products/item.aspx?item=2745), yours for $60. Throw in a DVD-D dual link cable ($15), an HDMI cable ($9), and a Toslink-to-Toslink Mini cable ($9), and you've got HDMI with digital audio coming out of your Mac Mini for $93--which happens to be less than Best Buy will charge you for a DVI or HDMI cable alone. :-)

Cheers

So she decided to do something a little different on this brief, what's up with all the harsh criticism? (although it did go a tad long, though)

Why, oh why, does Apple hate the hdmi.
It's the only thing that has kept me from buying a new MBP or a mini. I just want to connect it to my huge new lcd tv with audio and video in one cable.

It's not even funny how fast my checking account would empty if the new mac mini will have and hdmi. Sadly it's not looking good.

This is the way of the big company Cali. They dominate markets by squeezing out the competition.
My company makes USB devices and everytimes theres a windows update release something goes wrong. So instead of working on developing new products you constantly have to stop for a week to fix an emergency caused by updates. Now you have to pay microsoft owned companies to prove your legitimate, just to write a .inf file to install one of microsofts own drivers! I mean...how can you compromise a PC by running a microsoft own driver?!!!
So whats the answer...open standards! Well no
Our web control product uses javascript in a standard browser, the idea is you can control anything across the internet using a local javascript page. BUT the new wave of web browsers don't allow a webpage from one domain to get data from another, so when you try to download the status of the IO ports from our product it now does nothing...no error..no pop up warning...just nothing! No workaround with IE.
IE7 had an option to allow data across domains...then in came an automatic update and it stopped working again, regardless of whether the option was checked. This is the same problem that stops you running web pages locally from your hard disk.
Basically you need to be a big company with a dedicated team chasing microsoft updates to keep your customer supported.
I mean..really...can it really be that hard to restrict javascript to runing within a browser? Is Vista really so poor that if you run a web page with javascript from your local harddrive it gets priviledges to write all over the rest of your drive?
Its all a nightmare.

yes..tabs and safari 4 will both go down in history as milestones in browsing history. What the hell?

You really need to get out of this Apple fog.

I'm also sick of browsers claiming to be x number of times faster, and then always dropping "while rendering javascript" as if that fact is unimportant.

My kids kept asking who the crazy person was under the sheet??

Another warning about Safari 4, if you are a RapidWeaver user, Safari 4 will not work with RW 4.2.1, but does with 4.2.2 beta 3
Just a heads up!

WARNING!

If you are using Mail and have Growl installed, DO NOT INSTALL THE SAFARI 4 BETA!

Safari 4 works fine, but the installation is incompatible with Growl and will cause the GrowlMail plug-in to crash your Mail every time it tries to download mail from the server. I've been on the phone with Apple Care for 3 hours and we could not get the problem fixed. I have to restore my system from Time Machine and see if that helps. So beware. Safari 4 Beta is great, but it will cause the Growl app to mess up your Mail.

I'm sure you had a lot of fun with the parody, but word is that Boxee is not broken, and just needs to be reinstalled (http://twitter.com/boxee/statuses/1249610454).

Safari 4 really needs to be compared to FF 3.1 (assuming they don't drop trace monkey) and Chrome and the latest Opera, especially w/ JS. These are the browsers that have the new JS engines.

The mac mini video is disappointing if it's true. Apple has a killer product, but they don't want to entertain the possibility of expanding the "low end." Not that this fits my bill either, but I could use it as a media box (Apple TV isn't enough for me, unless they open it up w/o hacking). Unfortunately, it's back to windows for me... hard to turn away a $900 8GB/quad core system.

The crocker spoof may have been a taad too long ;)
