Shownotes:
This is the first part of a conversation I had with Greg Grunberg who plays Matt “The Mind Reader” Parkman on the TV show Heroes about Twitter.
Twitter can be called a lot of things, but one of the things it is is a great facilitator. It facilitates connections that make real differences in people’s lives. Greg Grunberg (@greggrunberg) started using Twitter. My friend Rick “MacMerc” Yeager (@rickmacmerc) likes Heroes and when he noticed that Greg was using Twitter, he offered Greg some tough love to help him get the most out of his Twittering. Greg and Rick became friends and now they’re business partners. They’ll be launching an iPhone App soon called Yowza!!
My friends Dave (@davecurlee) and Kat Curlee (@katcurlee) recently found out their daughter has epilepsy. Kat shared the news on Twitter. Greg Grunberg has a son with Epilepsy and he serves as the Chair for the National Walk for Epilepsy. He reached out to Kat with encouragement and advice and really helped to alleviate tons of anxiety Dave and Kat were feeling.
Greg, Rick, Dave and Kat all connected on Twitter and it didn’t matter that one of them was a famous TV guy. Twitter just put them on equal footing as nice people who could help each other.
The National Walk for Epilepsy will be held in Washington, DC on the National Mall, Saturday, March 28, 2009. Greg is walking for his son’s team, Jake’s Crazy Brain Waves. You can find out more information at walkforepilepsy.org.

Wow! Two amazing people in one amazing episode. What an awesome guy, a real hero in rl too! I was more ecstatic than usual after watching this episode. As a tech/heroes lovin guy who happens to have epilepsy, this is a real encouragement. Cant wait for part 2. Great backstory, hehe the power of twitter ;)
What Gregg is doing is awesome. Raising awareness in an intelligent way, which means people wont freak out, but will instead know how to help. Whilst people living with epilepsy have to take their condition into account, (just like people with say diabetes do) its just one factor of life, the only true limits are what you believe are possible. When youre honest about your challenges and fears, you can learn from them and help others too. So live your dreams peeps :) Thankyou Cali & Gregg for this episode!

I think it’s pretty awesome that even though Twitter is becoming populated by huge celebrities with huge followings (Shaq, Ellen DeGeneres, Demi Moore, etc), there are still actors (Grunny, Wil Wheaton, John Hodgman, etc.) who use Twitter and other social media to let their geek flag fly and do some awesome charity work as well.

Greg: I agree, it’s goofy calling people followers. Peeps is such a better word, not to mention a great play on bird words.
