Tweetie is cool, but for some reason I keep getting the “limit exceeded error” more frequently than I should!

My 5 favourite iPhone apps are as follows:
1. Tweetie ($2.99)
WELL worth the price, it’s my new favorite Twitter client (I’m @bjwanlund on Twitter), and it’s one of only 2 apps that have the honor of gracing my first home screen; my next one is the other one.
2. Kindle for iPhone (free)
I don’t have a Kindle, but I can certainly read Kindle books on this thing! This is the ultimate timewaster when you’re standing in line (besides Twitter, anyway)!
3. Night Camera ($0.99)
This app is quite cheap, and I gotta say, in low light, this app performs like a champ! I’ve taken a lot of pics on my iPhone, and most of them were with Night Camera! Well worth the money!
4. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch (free)
Lots of us love seafood, but a lot of seafood is overfished and/or harvested unsustainably. This app tells you what to avoid in your region, and what to have as a sustainable alternative. Fantastic. And it’s free, just like those paper guides you get at the aquarium!
5. What’s On TV? (free)
There are a couple of TV guide apps for the iPhone. I’ve tried both of them, and this one is the CLEAR victor. You can see exactly what you need to. Some of you may have a TiVo that’s basically always on the Internet, but I don’t have a TiVo. Even worse, I have EyeTV 2 still (I still have not upgraded as yet)
Honorable Mentions (I can’t pick just 5):
EWB Baseball ($7.99)
Earl Weaver Baseball. Even that name should dredge up some memories of playing the Electronic Arts classic, before Electronic Arts became evil blood-sucking vampires. Eddie Dombrower, one of the original creators of Earl Weaver Baseball, has ported the game to the iPhone. It’s still not quite there just yet, but for fans of the original, the price is a steal. If you want to see his tweets on Twitter regarding the title, follow @ewbbaseball.
MLB.com At Bat 2009 ($9.99)
Gameday Audio rounds out the package from last year, and is well worth the $5 extra over and above last year’s price.
Thanks for telling us your 5 on GBTV, Cali.

My favorite 3rd party app is Toodledo, a todo list manager. The iPhone app syncs wirelessly with the excellent toodledo.com web site There are Firefox plugins to make it very easy to add and monitor tasks. A complete solution
If you’re busy or forgetful then this is a great program.
Thanks for the Rssplayer info. It’s just what I need to take on my trip (I’ll be unable to sync with iTunes for 3 weeks and the Apple wireless download solution is painful to use).

vNES is a NES emulator for your cellphone! http://www.vampent.com/vnes.htm
I put it on my Samsung Sync, which is notably not a smart phone.
The app works for J2ME as well as the S60 platform.

Well, My favorites are
1. mBox – this gets all of your hotmail emails and is what i use the most + its just been brought up to version 2.0 so it looks a lot better
2. taptap revenge 2 – just a stunning game and i have competition with my brother the hole time.
3. air mouse – control you mac with your ipod by swinging it around the air (or use the touch pad == what i do :-))
4.Shazam – so many time this has been useful finds songs by listening -(have this one on my G1) – and just for extra info http://www.midomi.com/ is the same but on a computer and you can hum/sing (and it works with Mac YAY)
I liked this podcast and have been enjoing the show for ages + voting for you everyday (when i remember)

My favorite five iPhone apps overlap a little with yours, but here goes.
5. The Weather Channel – big improvement over the Apple Weather app, including maps, video, weather warnings, and 10 day forecast.
4. Facebook – I don’t even use Facebook on the web anymore, because I don’t like the way they’re trying to be like Twitter. I do check on my friends and family using my iPhone though.
3. DVR remote – I agree with everything you said, and would add that the iPhone app through the network connection seems to actually respond faster than the included IR remote.
2. Tweetie – I think I’ve tried almost every Twitter client, and Tweetie is well worth the $2.99.
1. i.TV – this free app has customizable television listings with linked clips and even complete episodes, can help you manage your Netflix queues, help find movies (and can even help you purchase tickets at some theaters), and best of all, connects to your TiVo to allow recording from the app. It works better than TiVo mobile or the main TiVo website.
Glad to see someone else has recommended the MLB live app for 2009. I’ve been trying to decide whether I want to pick it up for the upcoming season.

My Palm Vx/Treo600/Treo700p Top Five Apps (some in use since Oct 2000):
#1 Tasks / ToDo (built-in) — how I run my life, way better than Outlook or any other I’ve seen
#2 Pocket Quicken — how I track my pocket cash (to the penny every month!)
#3 Splash Shopper — how I am always organized in the store and save money on groceries
#4 Google Maps — how I get most anywhere with ease
#5 Peanut Reader — e-books from long before Sony or the Kindle!
April 2nd, 2009 at 5:59 pm
1. Jaadu VNC. The app that I can remotely control all my Macs anywhere with good 3G reception. I use this US$24.99 app so often that it’s worth the price.
2. Air Mouse. I use this with my Mac mini that’s hooked up to a projector. Sometimes too lazy to use the BT keyboard and mouse.
3. Shazam. Need to know what song is playing on the TV, this app is a gem.
4. Air Sharing/Datacase. A tie between to file transfer apps. I use either for different reasons.
5. Maps/Google Earth/MotionX GPS. 3 directional apps.

Whispersync is amazing, a facet of the Kindle that really sets it apart from the competition. Every once in a while some piece of tech really feels like magic. Setting down your Kindle, then picking up your iPhone and having the book open to the same page is that kind of “wow” experience. Other favorite apps are Mars Atlas, Moon Atlas, Tweetie, eWallet and Vector Ball.
April 2nd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
My top 5 app store apps that I use often:
• Tweetie (follow me @besweeet :D)
• OrbLive (a free and great SlingBox alternative)
• Flight Control (an extremely fun and addicting game)
• LogMeIn (best and easiest way to remotely control a Mac or PC or both)
• WifiTouchPad (I use this whenever I do activities from my computer on my HDTV)
My top 5 jailbroken apps that I use often:
• Cycorder (record some great quality videos with audio)
• Winterboard (completely theme your iPhone)
• MobileFinder (Finder for your iPhone)
• MobileTerminal (sometimes you just have to use commands)
• dTunes (an alternative media player that I use to watch downloaded videos or to play files that I don’t sync with iTunes)
So there ya go. Email me if you have any questions.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 pm
1. TwitterFon — Almost as good as Tweetie and it’s free!
2. Classics — Beautiful interface. Amazon would have been better off if they had just contracted out development of their Kindle app to the developers of Classics.
3. Deliveries — Syncs with the venerable Delivery Status Dashboard app.
4. Mint.com — Best online personal finances web site and it’s free!
5. Sol Free — Best solitaire game ever.
Anyone who’s looking into buying Tweetie should really try TwitterFon first. For a free app, it’s fantastic.

Woo Hoo! I am famous! You could see my name and icon in Cali’s Tweetie screen shot.
They used to say everyone gets 15 minutes of fame. My friend, Shawn, says now it’s 15 gigabytes of fame. I wonder how much of mine this used up. :-)

My favorite 5 apps for the iphone are:
- BeejiveIM (Chat client for AIM/MobileMe, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, Myspace at the same time)
- Burning Monkey Casino (Casino games)
- Golf Ace (Scorecard recorder info)
- Speed Alert (Gives you your current speed using GPS connection, also you can set an alarm when you reach certain speed)
- Biggest Brain (Game to exercise your brain)
P.S.
By the way Cali was that an Aluminum Macbook you had there in the background? I have one and gives me terrible wifi problems, have you got those? Were you able to fix them (slow connections, connection timeouts)?
Thanks!, and excellent show! I have been following it for a long time now.
Warmest regards from Mexico!

I have a BlackBerry Curve 8320 on Verizon. Here are my top five favorite apps (all free):
Gtalk—I setup a gateway to login to my AIM, MSNM, and Y!M IM accounts all through wherever I login to Gtalk. So this one app works great for all my chatting needs.
Gmail Mobile.
TwitterBerry—I really wish the Tweets would list fully expanded, but TwitterBerry’s ability to notify me of replies is great, but not as good as Tweetie.
Ka-Glom!—A free, and very addicting game.
The Weather Network
I’d love to see more, especially free, BlackBerry apps!
April 3rd, 2009 at 12:58 pm
My Top 5 are
Kindle – Great way to read books and a lot cheaper than Audible!
YippyIT – My favorite game, the only one I’ve kept playing daily!
Tweetie – Best Twitter app so far…
Mobile News – AP News with national, international and local stories.
AccuWeather – Gives great weather and has a nice interface.
My biggest app wish would be to be able to remove or hide the built-in apps I don’t use. You know Clock, Weather, Stocks and for me YouTube.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:55 pm
My top 5 are (drum roll please):
1. Evernote – love being able to capture things on the go and access all my info – whether it was created on my Mac, through the web interface or on my phone. The recently released version 2.0 is even better.
2. Things – This is the other key tool in my arsenal that helps me stay on top of things.
3. 1Password – Very handy to be able to bring my confidential information (web logins, passport information, membership numbers, etc.) with me knowing that it’s safely store for my eyes only.
4. Tweetie – Good call on this one, Cali. I’ve tried a few Twitter apps and this is the one I stuck with.
5. Quordy – I’ve installed quite a few games…some are pretty cool, but soon lose my attention. This one has staying power.
I’m going to be a rebel and add a few more to the list:
6. FlightTrack Pro – For frequent travellers this app is highly recommended. Best of all it’s integrated with TripIt (which is a great service in its own rite), so there’s no need to enter the fights manually.
7. Urbanspoon – Have found some great restaurants with this one…and it’s great to see their network of cities continuing to grow.
8. Flixster – This app just gets better and better and is handy to have whether you’re renting a flick at the local Blockbusters on off to the cinemas. I appreciate the fact that there’s an option to include Rotten Tomato ratings in the lists.
There are a couple more that I’d like to be able to put through their paces – Kindle and Skype – but unfortunately neither are available up here in the Great White North.
April 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
I am going to go CRAZY! I’m so close to jumping to ATT for an iPhone! Barring there higher rates for service. HONK!

What is the difference between the RSS Player and the standard iTunes store podcast functionality that comes with the iPhone? Can’t I do all of that already?
April 5th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Where are most of the applications for the iphone found?
Great show btw!!
Cheers
Jose

* Amazon Mobile FREE – search online prices & reviews (esp when looking at the item in a store)
* WunderRadio $5.99 – listen to streaming radio stations around the world
* Shazam FREE – identify music you hear (radio, TV, film, etc)
* iNeko FREE – play with the original electronic cat
* iPity FREE – if you remember Mr. T, then this is a no-brainer (in more ways than one)
* Wolfenstein 3D Classic $4.99 – if you played it in any of its many incarnations, how can you not buy this one ?
April 6th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
1)Listomni…The perfect combination of building lists and a todo section as well. Backs up to your email or send your spouse your list and merge.
2) BillMinder…The best Bill reminder app out there. I have never been late on a bill since I have had this app.
3) Evernote…had to remove until it catches up with 3.0 but it is my only app used for college. I can record, take pictures of white boards and do research online and save into this app.
4) ooTunes…I am a music lover and this is the only app that will allow me to tune in my favorite FM radio station to my 365Live non-vip feeds.
5) Pandora…The only music App that has been on my iPhone for two years. It is self explanatory.
April 7th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
My most used app are:
Woot Watch
Tap Forms
Picture Vault
Sportacular
FreeMemory
Tap Forms is the most useful, you can put any important info in this app Credit Card Numbers, DL info etc. Its secure and you have the info with you at all times. You may loose you wallet but you have all the info safe in your phone in case you have to call in you credit cards lost or stolen while you are away from home..

Hopefully version 2.0 will be the one to get for Android!!!
April 9th, 2009 at 7:13 am
My top 5 applications for my iPhone
1. Jaadu VNC (24.99) (Lets me use my Mac or PC REMOTELY on the 3G network, fully supported copy+paste and everything else your computer can do but your iPhone can’t, unfortunately audio is only supported for Jaadu’s other app, Remote Desktop [PC only])
2. WebMessenger (Free)
3. Skype (Free)
4. Slacker Radio (Free, premium available)
5. Watchmen: Justice is Coming (0.99) (Has a lot of potential, an MMORPG in 3D for the iPhone)
April 9th, 2009 at 8:05 am
My Top 5 (OK, 11) applications for my iPod Touch:
1. FlightTrack Pro ($9.99). flight tracker/status updates that integrates with TripIt to automatically show you your flights.
2. Google Maps (Free). Nuff said.
3. USA Today (Free). Includes one of the best weather implementations I’ve seen. (but AP news is probably better for international news)
4. SplashID ($9.99). Best password/secret data keeper I’ve seen. Syncs wirelessly with Mac and PC versions. Excellent implementation. (SplashID Lite is free)
5. BJ Run Lite (Free) – simple BlackJack game against the clock. Great for helping with mental dexterity for those of us heading into and out of middle age.
6. TideGraph (Free). Great if you have a boat. Not so much if you don’t.
7. Wikipanion and Dictionaire (Free). Wikipedia and dictionary on iPhone.
8. Mail. Built in mail app is actually pretty good, despite a few limitations. Outlook/Exchange connector is good enough to make me finally give up my BlackBerry.
9. Blocked ($0.99). Simple idea – move blocks around the screen to free the ‘key’ block. Beautifully implemented
10. Koi Pond ($0.99). Simple, useless yet beautiful.
11. Labyrinth LE (Free) Best demonstration of the iPhone motion sensor
I’ll also throw in Tweetie and Facebook mentioned above.
Honorable mentions:
1. ReTweet (Free). Top twitter retweets in the last 3/6/12/24 hours. Nice snapshot of interesting things.
2. Skype (Free). Kinda useless on my iPod version 1, but will come into its own when I get my iPhone later this year.
3. Speedtest (Free). Useful for troubleshooting my Comcast cable problems.
4. LinkedIn (Free). iPhone client for the LinkedIn web site.
Best Cydia apps (all free)
1. SBSettings. Pop up access to control various toggles, access frequently used apps, hide apps
2. Winterboard. Change backgrounds, fonts, icons, battery screen.
3. KillExchangeLock. Removes the requirement to password protect your iPhone when connecting to an MS Exchange mail server
4. Insomnia. Keeps wireless active when the lock screen turns on. Useful when SSHing to the iPhone or running background apps.
April 12th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Cali, a warning about RSS Player for the iPhone. It appears that the downloads for this have gone way up since you anounced it on the show. I’m a fan of this type of software (I.e. Podcaster) but the reviews are getting worse and worse. If this was one of your own comments to use this you might want to reiterate that on the brief. People are using your reference as the reason to buy the app.
I chose not to because the ratings had dropped to one star.
Just my two cents.
As always. Great work!
Especially you Neil!!!!!
April 23rd, 2009 at 2:45 am
