Shownotes:
I keep getting in a conversation with viewers of GeekBrief.TV about the TV show The Big Bang Theory. A lot of people think it stereotypes geeks, but what I love about the show is that it doesn’t. One of the writers watches Geek Brief, and I was honored to be invited by the set. While I was there, I interviewed Bill Prady, the co-creator of the show.

It absolutely stereotypes geeks! You’re right on it being one of the funniest shows on TV, next to 30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother. Love the intro music too, BNL is so cool.

I never understood the stereotyping and tv shows… especially for a half hour comedy. Part of it being funny is the stereotyping.
I haven’t seen the show yet, but can we see the pilot anywhere for free? I don’t want to buy it on itunes, like it, and double pay for it w/ the subscription to the seasons.
And yes, HIMYM is freakin hilarious. 30 rock.. eh, I can’t stand tracy morgan’s character. It’s just too much.

err.. wait, this is on netflix too =)

LOVE THIS SHOW !!!! My daughter works in Marketing for a major internet site and down the hall from 30+ programmers. If she doesn’t watch BBT she has no one to talk to on Tuesday mornings. It has become at her shop the newest cult following. Thanks Cali for taking us behind the scenes. (I hope Sheldon doesn’t find out).

Hmmm I have never seen Big Bang Theory, but I like the interview,Bill Pardy comes accross really well, i warmed to guy! , good interview! Thanks I think I will give the show a go. (not that little old me over the pond will make a huge diffrence to the ratings :P).
Youwere shy when you were a kid ??? bah must have been an American kind of shy! :P

Bill Pardy’s comment on intelligence not helping in social settings was well said. Suggest to him that he might like to read Malcolm Gladwell’s book, Outliers. The chapter on IQ is very good.
One part of the chapter talks about IQ as a predictor of success. Briefly, if a person has an IQ greater than about 140 then IQ no longer predicts success in their endeavors. Social skills play a more important role and the higher the IQ the poorer social skills tend to be.
The discussion is more detailed and subtle than my summary so I recommend reading the book.

Great interview. We have really enjoyed the show and it is great to get some of the background. On the set of Big Bang Theory – I’m so jealous!!

All of this celebrity oriented crap is ruining your show! Our society is WAY TOO celebrity obsessed already.

@Cali, I was *very* shy as a child, too; and still very much so in ways today. The same goes for many of us who were dialing in to the old bulletin board systems (BBS) before TCP/IP and those dreaded “pay boards.” Once I get over an unholy fear of being judged, laughed-at or rejected, I’m a shiny, happy geek, too; and certainly not the only one here or thereabouts. ^..^~

Cali, you are awesome, but not watching BSG? Really? GeekCred– my dear :(
There is time to redeem yourself though…. start with the miniseries (backstory) and then all of season 1 (great stuff), and when you’re done with that we can discuss what you should cherry pick from season 2 and three, and then you should finish off with all of season 4 (just for completeness, even though it’s not as good all through as others.
Love the show, keep it up!

I’m a ‘Big Bang Theory” fan. Cali Lewis interviews co-creator Bill Prady on Geek Brief #542 543: http://bit.ly/ld7Xq

I’m a few episodes behind, so I’m just now getting to this one.
Cali, don’t feel like the only surviving member of your species. I didn’t get in to BSG either. Just wasn’t my thing.
All of us who aren’t a fan of BSG should get together and hold a convention. Convention space shouldn’t be a problem, since there are probably only 30 of us ;-)

To keep a promise, I have Season 1: Disc 1 of “The Big Bang Theory” and I’ll start watching after I feed the kitties tonight. ^..^~
