Shownotes:
I’ve been asking Data Robotics for a Pro version of Drobo since they released their original Drobo product. I wasn’t the only one. Small businesses, editors and photographers have been asking, and today the Drobo Pro is released. It’s rackmountable, has Gigabit Ethernet, and holds 8 SATA drives of any type or size. You can find out more at drobo.com/drobopro.
The Media Mover is a USB gadget for your DVR that transcodes video on the go, so you can carry the show you’re watching with you as you move around the house.
Real Networks was sued and ordered to stop selling RealDVD, which allows you to store digital copies of the DVDs you own on up to 5 PCs. They’re going into court April 24th to fight for your rights. You can follow their story at realdvd.com/litigation.
Brando announced a new SATA Hard Drive Desk Top Dock. It looks to be VoIP friendly and is $60.
I’ve made the Top 16 for The Best Job in the World. That means I’ll be flying to Australia for a week of interviews in May, and the final winner will be announced May 6th. We’ll be shooting some episodes of GeekBrief.TV from Australia while we’re there! I’m blogging about the contest and my experiences during the process on my blog, CaliLewis.me

Congrats on the trip Down Under. If you’ve never been you may never come home. We toured between Bundy and Brisbane for two weeks (with 30 middle school kids) and I fell in love with the country and the people. Our only complaint was the lack of Mexican food available – thought seriously about starting a chain of taco stands.
You get my vote for the job – actually you got about a thousand of my votes. Too many domain names !!

I’ve found the Data Robotics web site very frustrating, the links for additional information about the Drobo Pro are not working, and I found the links that are working are very slow to respond.
But beyond my frustration with the site, the product is just what I’ve been waiting and looking for!
Sweet…

Congrats Cali. If you get the job and visit your sister before you go, I still want to have lunch with you and Neal.

I have been recommending Drobo to those working with large amount of rich-content data. Many of them balk at the cost, but for whatever a person chooses to do, I always insist, *You should back-up your data by some means for which you can easily retrieve it should a system or disk fail.* There.
