GBTV #575 | DIY 130-megapixel Scancam, iPhone 3G Early Upgrade Pricing, N97, Smell of Books in a Can, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 with WiiMotion Plus

Shownotes:

A guy decided to make a 130 megapixel camera out of a 1200 dpi Epson GT-S620 scanner. You can see his experiments on his Flickr Stream.

I’ve decided I won’t be upgrading to the iPhone 3GS due to the upgrade pricing structure. Early upgrade pricing makes the 16GB version $400 and the 32GB version $500, and if you don’t qualify for that, the full price is $600 for the 16GB and $700 for the 32GB.

The Nokia N97 is being sold now and it comes preloaded with Qik.

If you love the smell of books and libraries, take a look at Smell of Books in a Can. I don’t think it’s real, but they’re showing a can of Crunchy Bacon Scent. How could I resist?

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 with Wii MotionPlus is now shipping. I’m looking forward to trying this out!

  4. Dan Says:

Brief 575 is freezing for me as soon as you pronounce SpyUge’s name – is that a problem at the server end?

  5. Zig Says:

The High Res version pauses after the Spyuge name is pronounced but the HD version worked well for me.

    Didn’t try the LowRes.

  6. Zig Says:

    Never mind…LowRes pauses as well.

  7. Derek D Says:

    Bacon Gumballs

  8. Randy Says:

I was surmising that since the project involved taking huge resolution pictures, that pehaps the screen name “spyuge” was pronounced “spy – huge” ?

Thanks for all your hard work doing Geekbrief!

I love the aerosol cans of book smells, amazing! I love my Sony reader, though i do miss real books from time to time (but never on the train!).

I think the bacon scent is for those who usually read at breakfast. With bacon. Mmmmm…. bacon..

Hi Cali. With current Nokia pricing such that it is, I believe I’ll stick with my N800 tablet PC a little longer and perhaps now finally consider an iPhone 3G.

For however people may feel about the Kindle, its presence is a step closer to the kind of future friends and I were day-dreaming about when we first started inter-networking with remote computers via GOPHER, HTTP, TELNET and UUCP protocols.

We have no control over just how the future is going to unfold before us, but for the most part, these are exciting times as imagination becomes innovation and a better world for us all becomes of both.

    Your Shiny Happy Geek Friend,

    Robert

Why not a single mention of the palm pre so far???

  13. Troy Kirchenbauer Says:

    Cali and Neil,

I love your show! I started watching earlier this year and really appreciate the fast pace updates on all the gadget stuff that I love. Since you are not planning to upgrade to the 3Gs iPhone, have you heard yet which of these new features are exclusive and will not be available via the software update? I know cut and paste is part of 3.0, but wondered about voice command and the compass.

    One Shinny Happy Fan,

    Troy

  14. Cali Lewis Says:

@Chris I’ve talked about the Pre many times on the show and am very excited about it.

  15. chris Says:

I know you have talked about the pre before, but I haven’t noticed a feature on it since its release. Am I mistaken?

  16. Jory Says:

Cali, you alluded to your love of bacon and bacon-related products in today’s episode and so I thought of you when I found this today:

    Bacon Henge!

What, no “Econ Book left in locker room under gym socks scent ?”

  18. MaTiCeK Says:

Cali, the new iPhone is a big upgrade, people just haven’t realized it yet. I find it more and more lustful everyday. Just imagine how much time one can save….

  19. warplayer Says:

I don’t mean to get too low-brow in the comments here, but I’m pretty sure that guy’s nickname “spyuge” is a common reference to a certain body fluid. Just saying.
