I met with others of our local geek community over the weekend to discuss the possibilities of Internet service providers (ISP’s) attempting to set bandwidth caps or limits upon their subscribers. Our consensus is that this likely to happen in the future with the ISP’s lobbying lawmaking agencies to rule and amend the law to their advantage. We’re currently looking at ways by which we can maintain enjoyable Internet experience, while at the same time, keeping each our individual user bandwidth usage at a reasonable level. ^..^~

just a practical point – sound has been a problem in the last few / several episodes – we’re finding we have to replay bits quite often, to understand what was said – seems to be a mix of how it’s recorded, harsh & echoey room acoustics, and volume at which things are said – we’ve just about learnt to cope with the US way of saying things (speed, fairly monotonic, no gaps between sentences), so it’s not that !!

The g33k community here has so far been tolerant of monopolies but we just couldn’t abide by a provider having BOTH a monopoly AND a bandwidth cap because the potential for abuse on the part of the provider would be mind-boggling. In summary, it’s not just about monopolies and it’s not just about bandwidth caps. It’s when you put these two together, you have a potential horror story for millions of people.

You guys are lucky that the bandwidth data cap was just an “experiment” for you. Down in Australia it’s like that everywhere, and we only get a very small amount of bandwidth!!!! :(
