Yes, it’s George the enormous fish. :)
May 5th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I’ve been to Hamilton Island and Lindeman Island on the GBR, and they’re both awesome!
Giddy luck, Cali!! :)
May 5th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Really nicely done. Thanks for getting this up here in the middle of everything else you’re doing. Just two more hours of holding my breath left to go!
May 5th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
@Cali, thanks! :-) I’d rather thought it might be the ponderous potato cod. Some time ago, you’d handily won with the GeekBrief community. You have the best job in the world because you DO the best job in the world.

Cali~
So sorry you weren’t chosen, but no you don’t have to worry about the dogs taking a long plane ride!
May 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
What a great ride – and you were sweet enough to take us all along with you. Congrats on being one of 16 finalists. A trip to QLD is a great consolation prize.
You’re a winner in our book and we’re rather proud to know we had a part. Have a great trip home.
May 5th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
I demand a recount
I think Cali should of won
May 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
News in Sweden tell that you did not get the job. Too bad but on the other hand the one you have is not too bad either!
Now unload all gear and take a few days off!
See you back online well rested later!

Cali & Neal,
Just saw the announcement on Channel 7 news, Cali all laughing and smiling. Pity about the result. You guys would have done a super job promoting our state.
Happy partying and enjoy the sunshine/weather. “Beautiful one day, perfect the next.” as the saying goes.

Can’t believe you didn’t win – the winner must be superb. Heard the news on BBC this morning. Well done for getting as far as you did, now go and relax and enjoy Australia.

Hi Cali how do you like aus ?
May 6th, 2009 at 7:15 am
You made the news on Australian TV. They even put your name as a sub title on the screen.
May 6th, 2009 at 7:58 am
Cali
So sorry you didn’t win, Must of been the bias towards the british accent that won the aussies over as you are by far and way the best for the best job in the world.
now more importantly, do you get to bring home that pink wet suit and do you have any pictures of you in it to share with us. ;-)
also saw Mark Lowry in concert this past Sunday and he is looking good, I almost shouted out your name to him but figures most in the crowd would have no clue what I was talking about so i chickened out.
May 6th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Cali & Neal,
We’re stunned & disappointed that you didn’t win, but proud that you made such a strong showing!
Hope you had as much fun in the attempt as it appeared from your updates.
Consolation prize… Thousands of fans eagerly awaiting your return when you return, not to mention the nice little “working” vacation on and off the island.
What a wonderful experience to have been a part of in addition to all the new friends from around the world you would have never met if you had not taken the challenge!
Again, you certainly did us proud!
Wishing you and Neal a safe trip back home!

Hey seen you on bbc & ITV news sorry you didnt win. shame neither station interviewed you could of got some good refers to geekbrief.tv.
May 6th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Cali,
Well done!! You are truly a class act. You may not have got the job, but you are still Number 1 to all of us geeks in the IT Department at Bridgerland Technology College. We’re looking forward to many more geekbriefs from our favorite geekette.
May 6th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
It was not a fair contest. You have much more experience than the winner. He got it only because he was British. At least you got a nice vacation out of it.
May 6th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
gee i wonder how much free publicity they got from your candidacy alone as opposed to Mr Southall’s candidacy? …
umumum..
May 6th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Frakk! I’m so pissed you didn’t win, I was hoping and wishing but sorry, I’m still glad you had the chance to go there on vacations and enjoy all that, From me I wish you more success cus you rock girl!
May 6th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Cali, too bad you did not win! You are so talented!
May 6th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Congrats on being one of the 3 runner ups. I would have loved to learn more about the place by watching your reports, but I guess that’s their loss. I was surprised to see the contest reported on the Channel 9 news in Denver with 2 photos of you in front of the other contestants. Keep up the great work.
May 6th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Cali, I’m so proud of you! It’s been an amazing journey. And I’m sure you’re having an awesome experience at Queensland.
May 7th, 2009 at 7:02 am
It looked extremely cool and you would have done and fantastic job – My guess is Geek Brief may have morphed a bit into a Geek and Travel Brief :) Looking forward to the rgular briefs coming back

I noticed that the file size of this particular episode for the podcast on extra-large format was actually considerably smaller than that for the ipod format.
Perhaps one crossed the streams? Total protonic reversal? Attack of the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man?
