Hulu released Hulu Desktop, an app that you can control with a Windows Media Center Remote or an Apple Remote, or a keyboard. Nicely done!

The DSLR Remote goes to show what can happen when people design things for themselves.

I cannot wait to try DSLR Remote on a camera hooked to my astrophotography telescope. As cool as it is for any kind of photography (where a computer can be accommodated), only people who’ve tried to fiddle camera controls in the dark, and twisted their necks to get a view of the camera’s LCD for focusing can grasp how fantastic this app could be in that situation. I want it several days prior to yesterday.

The remote solution is not lightweight enough : on the camera side, you need a computer to act as the controller. What about a “server mode” on the iphone app ? You could, then :
1. take pictures from your computer or
2. take pictures from another iphone/wifi enabled pda-smartphone

Your report might cost me a pretty penny! I looked at DSLR Remote for the iPhone and found a Pro version that will control multiple cameras from a single laptop! I have been shooting digital stereo photography with a LANC Shepherd Pro and a pair of Sony DSC-V3 cameras for years, but they are now getting a little long in the tooth. I might have to buy a second Canon 5D Mk II and an XP license for my Mac Book Pro to set up the perfect 3d camera setup. This could even lead to DIY 3D movies!

FYI: If you don’t want to invest in a phone, this also works on the iPod Touch. I just wish I knew if my MacBook and the Touch could communicate directly through their WiFi (WITHOUT a Hotspot).

@Tony De Vito – yes, your MacBook and the Touch can communicate via an Ad Hoc network. See this video http://www.ononesoftware.com/blog/2009/05/22/how-to-create-an-ad-hoc-network/

I’m with AP, I don’t see how this is any different than the Nikon Camera Control software, as in both cases you need to be tethered to the computer to fire the camera. If you could set this up to not need the laptop, then that would peak my interest slightly. Of course then you couldn’t automatically download your pictures to your computer and view/post process them on the fly.
