Shownotes:
We’ve been talking about Augmented Reality for a couple years on GeekBrief.TV. It’s exciting to see future tech begin to become reality. SPRXmobile has an A.R. browser called Layar. The excitement will reach the Dutch market first, and spread out from there.
The Samsung VC2400 is Telepresence even small companies can afford. It has a 24-inch LCD display and a 5-megapixel camera with a noise-canceling mic.
Everyone’s talking about the Olympus PEN E-P1. It’s a classic-looking Micro Four Thirds camera that will produce video and images with “depth of field and Art Filter effects familiar from still photography”. Stills are 12.3-megapixels and HD video is captured at 1280X720.

TomTom is introducing Homer Simpson as a new voice in their GPS units. Doh!
(yeah, I know, that wasn’t funny)

We’re excited for the E-P1 because of the size of this thing.. the body is on par with, or smaller than, the Canon G10, while having the same sensor from Oly’s E620.
It’s a huge step in filling the niche market that wants compact (relative to a dSLR) and interchangeable lenses.
For a huge roundup: http://www.1001noisycameras.com/2009/06/pictures-of-olympus-ep1-body-and-lenses-leaked.html
I for one, am *this* close to pre-ordering. Just need to pony up the funds.

The Olympus is one handsome camera, like the Leica 35mm rangefinder cameras my dad used in his profession.

Hey Cali, about the multi-touch with Linux: I stumbled upon an article awhile ago about someone making a Microsoft Surface like device using linux, a bunch of LEDs, a PS3 Eye Camaera, and some good old fashioned do-it-yourself. Heres the link: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/maximum_pc_builds_a_multitouch_surface_computer?page=0%2C0
They also show you how to make it, its estimated to cost about $200 to make so its amazingly cheaper than the Surface.

If you look closely at the native touch video it doesn’t track right. I thought i read it somewhere that it was just a good video editing job. I can’t remember where I read it. Please check it out.

Cali, thanks for the news about Layar! I love Augmented Reality news ever since you introduced it to me. I can’t wait until Layar is available in the U.S. :)
