Shownotes:
Apple announced today that Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google is resigning from Apple’s Board of Directors due to conflicting interests.
If you follow me on Twitter, you saw on Saturday that my iPhone was shattered, so I’ve been thinking about which phones I might like to replace it with. The LG-BL40 is one option, which we’ve talked about a couple times on the Brief. Now there’s a commercial that shows us the potential of the widescreen.
Nikon may be releasing the S1000pj Coolpix camera soon. It’ll have a projector and sell for around $700.
Toyota has built a humanoid robot that can run. The challenge they face, by working on his balance control, is getting him to walk and run smoothly on uneven ground.

Have a look at the Samsung I7500. Nice Android phone! I am using the HTC Magic which is also a great device. Since Google gave out Magic phones on Google I/O I guess it is available in the US as well. I really hope you get an Android device so we can get some briefs about Android apps ;)

I am liking the look of the Nokia N97…but chocolate could be tempting you…??
…also…having a “great hair day” too huh?

You should get the Pre and have fun with the homebrew without having to break out of jail. :) Now to watch the Brief on mine…

In your blog post you weren’t sure what shattered your iphone. How did you find out the shop broke it?
August 3rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
@Mike – after processing the events of the day over and over, I decided it *had* to have happened at the bike shop. It was fine a bit before and the shop offered to do a free 30 day check up, in which they turn the bike over – upside down. I’m 99% sure it happened as the bike was flipped. It probably hit the neck of the bike or something.

Umm… Yes, Steve doesn’t want anyone playing in his sandbox. I now have an iPhone, I love it, but mine is jailbroken, I bricked it twice in the process, but SSHing into my phone and using it as a USB key is super useful, not to mention stealthy.

Really? The Google Voice thing is that big of a deal? The iPhone is a great platform. I find it odd that other than some exceptions, leaving the platform of choice for an app seems slightly odd. (I know the Pre and Android are up and comers, and offer some levels of geek interest)
Is it Apple’s decision to protect their product ecosystem that drives you away?
This sounds very much like Arrington’s announcement from just a few days ago…

Cali,
Why don’t you do a brief on fixing the cracked screen on your iPhone.. I just fixed my wifes iPhone last night actually the 2nd time.. First time, it was just the glass that was broken, but in my attempt to fix it, I cracked the LCD :-(.. I just replaced the LCD last night and it is working fine.. There are tricks that I learned AFTER I cracked the screen that would have really saved me from ordering another LCD. Use a suction cup..

Cali,
What, no extended warranty/AppleCare on your iPhone? Or, was it, like my G5, beyond the warranty expiration date. Or, is broken glass outside of the coverage? I ask because, when I was in the Apple Store last week, someone came in with a Gen1 iPhone that was not making calls. He had AppleCare for it and they told him he’d get a new placement unit (ordered from home base, not from store stock).

Hi Cali.
It seems you have problems with the quality of your video. The embedded video has a wrong aspect ratio – you look a lot thinner, but you don’t need that – and the download is blocky and sound is not syncrone with the video.
Still love the show though :-)

I just go my iPhone 3GS and I love it. Had to upgrade from 3G. Phone got wet voided warranty. Still works, won’t ring.
Won’t be the same if you don’t have an iPhone. Then again maybe the will get rid of AT&T for the next iPhone.

Someone misses SF!
Another great brief. I can’t wait to see what phone you try before getting the new iPhone. lol

Why don’t you try a Palm Pre. I’d love to hear an Iphone lover’s take on the Pre.
August 5th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Cali, no Palm Pre on your most wanted phones list? why not?

You need to do something cool to the iPhone. I know I always wanted to take one apart.

You iPhone broke…. part of me is happy, part if me is sad. ….
Happy: your now open to trying a different brand instead of following Apple blurb
Sad: iPhone is a great piece of tech, and you’ll be hard pushed to find an alternative without changing your needs. N97, not too sure you should waste your time with a 1990’s brand like Nokia. I would say Palm Pre or a Blackberry. Maybe even a HTC, if you can find a one that has a fast processor.
