People kept telling me I should do this, so I decided at the last minute to give it a shot for grins. Tourism Queensland is doing a marketing contest to get someone to blog and create videos from The Great Barrier Reef for six months.
1) I was interested in the competition
2) I love shooting Geek Brief in front of nature
3) Geek Brief friends in Australia keep asking for a meetup, and if I win, I wouldn’t have to pay for a plane ticket! ;)
If you have a second to go rate my entry, I would appreciate it (if you rate it high, otherwise I would not appreciate it! ;) Cali on IslandReefJob.com

That would be awesome Cali!!! Your video there would rock!!! Good luck!

Nicely done. Maybe a little summer/fun/beach wardrobe during the reef blue screen to really get into the character would be fun!
I think you would be a phenomenal choice for this gig, although I would be insanely jealous since I haven’t been there yet, and it’s on the top 5 places list to be visited, second to New Zealand.

How could they choose anyone else? It is so refreshing to see someone with a positive attitude.

I’ll give you a 5, because I’d love to see you in a bikini ;-) No disrespect intended. I just think you look better than most of the models modeling swimsuits.
Good luck.

Great marketing, huh? I don’t know how many entries they got, but it was a lot. We were hired to help Paul Martin enter. See his Island Reef Job entry at you tube slash pjmcnusa
Good luck, Cali

Hi Cali,
I think this one is about Hamilton Island – if so hope you win. You and Neal would love it.
Be great to have an Aussie geek brief.
Hope to see you there,

Hey Cali,
I have to admit that a Google Alerts search for Island Reef Job brought me to this page, as I’ve never heard of GeekBrief.tv before.
But I’ll be returning. What a great site and great concept you have here! What kind of production staff do you have… or is it all you?
Really great and professional presentation and much success to you in the contest.
Warmest,
Jonathan Kraft

You need to get more people over to the site to vote. I can’t find you in the top vids for the U.S.????
They have to view and vote!

About Islandreefjob, the best job in the world.
I followed this campaign quite bit. I live since 13 years with the sea on a boat and work with tourism.
On the surface I found this job-offer very interesing.
But as the compaign went on, I became more and more critical regarding its benefits for the winner or the host.
Lets start with the little things. Looking at the footage of the finals, already the snorkel scenes turned me completely off. This is truely a dead reef, I was thinking. And millions are watching those clips online?
What morone is responsible for this. I heard that the barrier reef has suffert a lot, but compared with a reef in for example Utila- Honduras , the Barrier reef seems to be a cemetary.
Ok, all of you divers will know what i am talking about and will definitely not get excited looking at this fotage. But divers, who wants to attract them? A barrier reef has probbably another target market.
Just kiding. Hey lets attract snorkelers , young people.
But than what are the messages : Lonesome island, lots of turtles putting eggs into the sand, bla bla bla,
mm, which young person is interested in that, young people are looking for young crowd to party and mingle.
Ok, so its not the diver and not the young people.
What about retirees? No hospital neer and who can affort a helicopter to take a quick trip to sidney if the pacemaker has a faulty connection.
So retirees are also not the right target group.
The winner is european caucasion white. Does obviously not speak french , portugese, spanish, chinese or indian.
That was really a great choice. Just beeing sarcastic here. Honastly, it isn’t all so important who you choose, the person has to run a daily blog on the internet and deliver the mail on the island, so everybody can do this.
But would everybody like to do this? I, I wouold not want to waste my life by turning myself into a very expensive marketing whore. I rather do something of value. I am not a mailwonan and did not study this aerea because I was more interested in another profession. I do not deliver mail in my hometown, i will also not deliver mail on the Moon. Anyway, this is something the winner will probbably find out himself soon.
By choosing a semi patriot from england is a isolating and stupid message to the world, the world the campaign wants to attract.
All together I am inclined to say, the advertising-idea was great, the execution is really shitty. No clear target market, bad product , contradictiong messages, and a breeze of vavortism in culture and race has already the idea. The spreading flower is damaged before it coould started to bare some fruits.
I believe, no fruits will grow on this tree.
What a waste of money, probbably all tax money of hart working australians.
Thank you very much,
Lisa Price
