In part II, Cali talked to Greg Sullivan, a Product Manager in the Windows Phone Group. She asked Greg questions about the Zune inspired interface. Greg says Microsoft is taking a Hub approach in contrast to Apple’s App approach.
Windows 7 Series breaks down into hubs around People, Photos, Music & Video, Games and other activities. The idea is group things around other things, so for example, clicking on a person’s photo would not only bring you contact information, it would bring you their status updates from Twitter and Facebook, it would bring you their photos from Flickr, and on and on. Just by clicking a persons photo, you’ll be able to get a good idea what’s happening in her life before you even click to make a phone call.
Cali is now on her way to MIX10 in Vegas where she is going to see what’s next for Web Design and Development.

In answer to some of the grumbles from the previous breif, this is a totally new development from the wheels up. Cali has a prototype in her hand, not the retail version that will be shipping out to vendors.
As with all new developments, there will be bugs to be ironed out. M$ is aiming for a tough market and they’re not fools. They know the product has to work well enough to compete with both Apple and Nokia.

Nicely done. It’s kind of a scoop actually since we cannot see such a deep review of the Windows Phone 7 series anywhere else?
This is odd for Microsoft to show a preview of a product such a long time before the actual final product. Their way to stay in the game I guess. Looks promising.

@J.P. Cali is traveling light so she took a small consumer HD camera. The ghosting is caused by autofocus not responding fast enough.

Well, if copy and paste are not supported in the final OS, that could be a deal breaker for some old WM users,or if they hope to steal some Iphone users. Looks like a decent OS overall though.. Good for you Cali for getting this great preview.Keep up the good Geeking.

Great job cali!….This phone so far is turning into a game changer for me. There is way too much positive going for this phone from the nice specs too the awesome UI going to let little quibbles that may or may not be available….I really do think they have nailed it this time…Once again excellent job cali…

I truely enjoy your show. I couldn’t help but notice the battery life of the Windows 7 phone. I rewinded the video to see if I missed the battery display the first time. Yep! Looks like the iPhone killer is a battery killer too!

@Mike, Cali has the hands of a classical pianist or harpist. She might also be tall for her gender stereotype and thus, has hands comparable to the size of the gender stereotype male.
It all goes to show that stereotypes don’t generalize as a universal truth in the real world. We’re all different and that’s a part of why we’re all beautiful.

Love the videos, but windows phone 7 series is terrible but still better than windows mobile. I am a graphic designer and an illustrator, from my point of view the interface has been designed primarily by a graphic designer who is trying too hard to make it obvious to the user how creative they r and how much effort they have put in. very little thought has been put into streamlining navigation instead they just made a whole bunch of eye candy that really isn’t very intuitive and looks rather confusing. If u look at a device like the iphone where navigating through menus just makes sense And the same rule is used in graphic design because good design should be transparent to the average person and just make sense. Just last week i bought the iphone 3GS and handed down my old 3g iphone to my dad who has never used it before and his previous phone was 5 years old, within 10 minutes he was using the device with ease.

I keep 1 copy of each of my stories simply because I need to know which magazine has rejected or accepted each story. What you are actually selling is First British Copyright. The story belongs to you, although here I’d recommend that selling the exact same story to numerous magazines is really little impolite in that every magazine wants to be individual and different. Imagine the disappointment of an editor to find that competing magazines have the exact same story.

When I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Thanks!

really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
