no thanks.
i’ve developed for it. it’s a flaky os. very unstable. this may be more stable than previous versions but for developers its a line in the sand and you have to start over again from scratch. what’s the incentive?
zune and xbox360 features… so it’s for children? winmobile has created a niche in business as it’s the ms phone. many of the companies i deal witj will not be happy having those features on an engineers phone.
currently ditching my iphone due to apples unfriendly behaviour. not going to be jumping to ms or symbian who are worse. so it looks like android from here on out.

@moylan – it’s not Windows Mobile, it’s Windows Phone. Totally new deal, redesigned from the ground up. Primary development platforms are Silverlight and XNA. It is for children, and adults, business people, students, and any consumer, but it is definitely not a toy. You should check out the sessions at #MIX10 (http://live.visitmix.com) in a couple days to see the overview sessions on the phone design and the focused ones on the developer platform.

just a new name to eliminate the failed previous platform.
i’ve tried them all. i’[ve had code running on them all. getting support for developement was a joke. bugs from the earliest versions persisted through to the latest versions. active sync is a disaster.
so if i have a winmobile6 device and a stack of software mine and others and i get a new winphone i have to hope that my software and others will be updated to run on it… not going to happen. there isn’t sufficient incentive to start again from scratch to write software for the new version. most likely half the software will come over and i’m left with a device that is less capable than the previous version until i can find equivalent software which can take months or years.
silverlight… why would i develop for a framework that is second rate on mac or linux? they are an increasing share of my customers.
xna… a xbox 360 framework that i have no interest in. if i want a gaming platform to develop for i’ll aim at the nintendo wii as that has a more diverse market share.
overall the platform is windows centric and as i have fewer and fewer windows systems i have no interest in the vendor lockin. if it makes you feel better that is also why i’m ditching the iphone. nice device, pity about the fact that there is no easy free way to make it work with linux.

Looks pretty cool, but there’s something about the black background that reminds me of DOS. Sticking to iPhone for now, although Nexus 1 is looking pretty sweet too.

How was the battery life on that device? It looked like you had a full charge at the beginning of the shoot and it appeared to be depleted at the end.

Awesome! Can’t wait to touch one of these myself. I wish the transitions happened faster between the home screen and apps. Also, yes, Apple will release something on their own, and yes, they will tell us we will like it, I like how this phone is fresh, and is it just me, or does the screen seem bigger? I also like the square design

You should give it a try. I’m also an iPhone user, macbook pro, iMac C5, drink apple juice, etc… Also have a Zune and run windows in virtual on my macs. CE/WinMobile has been challenging to be kind.
I haven’t held a Windows Phone in my hand but have seen the platform up close and in the flesh several times over the past week and it looks impressive.
This is different. I’d just suggest you hold judgement before you are so adamant that this more of the same old thing.

no doubt i’ll see one as soon as it is released. however i think i’m not going to be developing for this one. ms have ignored the developers on the platform for too long. so apps may be a problem. why develop for an new unknown when android and the iphone are doing so well?
and as it won’t be linux friendly i won’t be buying for personal consumption.
ms had a business market of a sorts. the new platform seems to be ignoring that. i think that’s why they are now calling mobile 6 ‘classic’. this splits the potential developer pool. dumb move as i see it.
and no cut and paste? give me a break. it was annoying when the iphone didn’t do it. did ms not learn from the hassle that apple got to ignore such an important feature?

To download App World for your Storm, go to your main menu and open Application Center, select BlackBerry App World, click Install, then go through the steps and when it asks Download or Cancel, select Download. Then it should be in either the Applications or Downloads folder. of course you can move it to whatever folder you want, but after you have it where you want, open it and you can use it to download apps.

Finally I was able to get rid of my old XP with Windows 7 being so awesome! I was tired of the old pre-2000 appearance. But I was NOT about to install Vista on any of my pc’s.. I love my computers too much for that.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune.
